1985 FA Final

FSC ran the 1985 Manure v Everton match last week. It was great for someone like me to see Kendall on the bench and some of the old players like Graeme(sp?) Sharp, Stevens and Southhall. Had a hard time making out the shirt sponsor back then, Havina?

It seemed that Everton had won the league and Europe that year but suffered a really frustrating loss at Wembley. Not the most exciting of games but the first ever red card at a FA final and quite possible one of the best red cards ever taken as it may well have saved the game for ManU.

Oh, BTW, do you know if they are replaying the Bayern Munchen game? Or maybe the token game we played after the semi's?

I sincerely doubt the Bayern game will ever be shown as they only 'replay' things they 'played' the firs time (FA Archives are the exception).

I also doubt that they will replay that consolation match as these replay's have a very strong Manure flavor to them (or Chelsea) and even then it tends to be the ones they won. I had a strong suspicion at the outset that ManU was going to win just because FSC was showing it. Then I got my hopes up when they went down a man and even the extra time. In the end, the goal was brilliant and all credit goes to their defense for completely stymieing our attack.

That sending off galvanised them. Arghh, this is pissing me off!! It happend over 20 years ago, I shouldn't still be mad about this!!!! I was friggin' 7 at the time!!!

Oh, the shirt sponsor was Hafina. Then after them came NEC which stayed with us for a long time, then Danka (for a year), then One2One, then Kejian and now Chang.

I watched that match as well FC.

They showed more of Atkinson than they did Kendall.

Good to see players who I've only heard about but never saw them play. One thing is for sure, the pace of the game is quite a bit quicker now than it was back then.

That and the shorts are a bit longer too.
