I can’t remember a time that I didn’t support Everton. My first game was on 1st October 1966, it was against Newcastle and we drew 1-1. I didn’t remember the score without googling it, but I do remember walking into the ground and smelling the grass and hearing thousands of people cheering. I was 4 years old and I was hooked. 57 years later and I still get that same feeling walking into the ground. I wonder what the new stadium will feel like?

By coincidence, I also saw my first league game on 1 October 1966. Nothing so glamorous though. My local team at the time was then 4th Division Aldershot who beat Rochdale 4-0. The first goal was a penalty and I stood right behind the goal in which it was scored. Just amazing when you are ten.

What a time to be alive and supporting the team. It was believe it or not, Everton as the best English team of the 1960s in the decade league table. Not the RS, not Man United led by Matt Busby, but Everton.

I can't see this new ground feeling anything like Goodison, but hey.... it is what it is really.
