The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Yeah but every time we buy big it goes tits up. Lukaku and Jordan excepted, even if JP had a shocker today, he's bailed us out when needed (Leicester pen, Vina shot on 94' etc).
Sure, we need to do it better than we've done it in the past but you still need to spend money to compete in the top half of the league. Everyone responsible for the wastage in the past has left the club so there's no reason why history needs to repeat itself.

Which it’s why it’s even more abysmal that we were down there with them until 7 games ago

Its ironic that some people are trying to somehow make a point the achievement of the new manager isnt anything that great because the bottom 3 are so poor but seemingly forgetting we were therefore just as poor under the previous manager lol.
And then they wonder why they're accused of sounding stupid.

This team earned enough points for 12th last season. We were lucky last season with injuries. 4 points behind a much better, Moyes' West Ham side.

It'll float between 12th-17th next season too - lower end if injuries.

If we really want to move away from the wrong end of the table, we need to spend big, and well this summer.
Wrong, winning the league next season

I think we are even with one. A 13 point gap with 13 to play (and GD advantage) was about as big as you could ever envisage happening, but 14 with 12 to play, not ever happening.

The relegation mark was 16 points when Dyche went, now it's 17 points. Moved one point in 6 games.

How safe does it need to be?
I still just have nightmares about that final day escape. I'll feel better at the start of May.

And some of the same posters were arguing the case for Dyche not to be sacked because he was doing as well as anyone could with this squad. Imagine thinking our squad is as poor as the level they are now making out.

Aside from the fact we were robbed of a pen today, we still got a point, all the teams in the relegation zone lost and we moved another point away from them, 14 points clear of the drop with 12 games to go. Even though we are only on 31 points, it would take something monumental now from 2 of the bottom 4 for us to have any issues.
I still think we are capable of putting even more distance between ourselves and the bottom 3

How safe does it need to be?
It needs to be after April and us be a good amount ahead. Or we win 2 of the next 3 games. Those fixtures in April are horrible. Yes we should beat Ipswich and Southampton but we don't want to be in a position where we have to.

I think we're safe now, but this lot don't do well with pressure so we need to be mathematically safe as soon as possible

I don't reckon any of that bottom three are breaching 30.
I hope you are right, but I'd take that bet all day long. I do not think 31 points keeps you in the Prem this season, not with 1/3 of the season to go and 36 points to play for almost all teams. (NB: not saying we'll get relegated, just that we realistically need 6/7/8 more points from 12 games to get across the line).
