The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Looking at the table, we could mathematically guarantee our safety in the next two weeks.

Ipswich have played 31 and have picked up 20 points. They therefore have seven games remaining meaning the highest points tally they can achieve is 41 points.

Meanwhile, Leicester have picked up three points fewer (17), but have a game in hand (against Newcastle tonight), which will bring them level on games played. Hence, the highest points tally Leicester can achieve is also 41 points.

We are currently on 35 points after 31 games. If we win our next two and they fail to win both of their games, we will be safe. However, if Leicester lose tonight and Ipswich lose next week, we could reach 38 points with a win (the highest points tally both Ipswich and Leicester could hope to achieve at that point). If that were to happen, we would only require another point to avoid having to consided goal difference.

Whatever happens, we should secure safety. It seems to be a matter of when rather than if.

They didn’t beat us. The match was a draw with progress determined by a penalty shootout.

Which ive said it many times to some that have said over and over we lost twice in here. We Lost and drew v them. Its the way its always been

In all serious though, they have to go now and find a manager to get them promoted - which Martin did.

Hes also a philosophy pick - if you appoint him you have to commit to that philosophy in the long term.

As opposed to watching Championship players not doing that.

Martin was terrible mate and refused to compromise on his suicidal tactics. We actually left it far too late to sack him as we were already basically relegated by the time he was gone in December.

Juric did poorly too but came into an impossible situation of a doomed team and an unfit squad with no money to spend in January.

I really hope we don't get a 'philosophy' manager. Sick of having managers who only play one way and never change it.

The best managers are and always have been adaptable.

I don’t think any manager was saving you this season mate!

At least with Martin you had someone you know you could do it if you went straight back down and needed to go again. There just wasn’t a purpose to Juric may as well just stuck!

Nah we were nowhere near good enough to survive but should have been more competitive than we have been.

There's no way Martin could have survived the season. When you're getting battered every week but telling fans how brave the team are and how much fun it is to stick to principles people understandably don't like it.

The fans had even started cheering when we cleared it long and he had a dig at us about it. No coming back from that.
