2024/25 Relegation Thread

Letting Dyche influence our spend is a recipe for disaster. No other manager in the league tries to play for a point in almost every game.
Well, I've lost patience with him, as I said. My ideal scenario is the takeover comes through, we sack Dyche, appoint a new manager, and spend big in January.

We've left too many points behind in these first 10 matches. Barring shock results in December, we'll be bottom three at Christmas and in deep trouble.

But gap to Palace also widened to 3.

I know the frustration at performances continues to build but in isolation you can't really sniff at a point away to a team that has spent a hell of a lot more on that team than we have ours, even if they are off-form.

Wolves go to in-form Fulham and Palace to Villa next week so there is a big opportunity next weekend at home to Brentford. Now a very important game with the games that lie ahead in December.

Three points is hardly anything as the GDs are identical.

Think my general point is with how poor Wolves and Palace have started the season there was an opportunity to be 9-10 points clear of both by now. Certainly was after the Ipswich win but that has been squandered and I think both will win 2-3 games in December while it looks at least 3 defeats in December if not more.

I mean how many points from Man. United, Arsenal and Man. City away? Those are the next three aways and I'd suggest the only small victory from that is if the GD dosen't go well into double figures. So the problem is losing those three and Palace and Wolves winning a couple of games on those matchdays.

You also can't be confident Dyche will set the team up correctly to win the Brentford and Wolves games. He only got it right at Goodison in April last season.

Southampton put back in their place today. Looking at those fixtures in dec/jan those gifted 3 points to the worst team in the league by a distance looks so costly.

Southampton don't matter at all to me, they are comfortably the worst side in the league and will finish bottom by at least five points. Criminal to actually lose to them but at least they're the final game at Goodison and they'll be long relegated by them so that is a comfort as that game will mean something bar emotions.

Ipswich also flatling now but I really don't think anyone can confidently say Wolves/Palace are just going to be stuck in 18th for more months.

Looking at the fixtures of ourselves and those around us, we really need to be beating Brentford to give us a bit of breathing space.

It's huge.

Goodison will be in revolt mode if it's even a draw at full time I reckon.

Brentford have 16 points from their six home games....0 points away. However they do have pace and goals in them and are quick starters in games which is a big concern.

At least Dycheball works well v them as they're also physical and rely on quick turnarounds so depends who wins the 50/50s on the day and all that.

Uh oh

Yeah dont care about Southampton. But we're not good enough to be giving 3 points away to them.
I think we're gona need every single point.
Southampton and how it turned out versus bournemouth are 6 massive points thrown away given our run in dec/jan. Massive

Alright but they have likes of Ipswich and Leicester in December at the same time this club is playing Arsenal and Chelsea.

Do you think the four point gap to 18th will be increasing or decreasing in December?

Have to be beating them at Goodison instead of being cautious.
But you're analysing things only in terms of Wolves- arguably we want them to take care of the likes of Ipswich and Leicester. The most likely three teams to be relegated remain the three promoted teams. I agree though that beating Wolves is absolutely massive for us in terms of maintaining an insurance policy.

We’re competetive in games, we just weren’t when previous managers were eventually fired, you could see they’d lost the dressing room and teams stopped running and you couldn’t even see where the next point was coming from.

Even in the last few games when you take the hysteria out of it it’s one loss in 7 from a last minute goal we could have scored ourselves a second before. Sure they’re fine margins and we could have lost as well some of those games but I’m not seeing a team that is giving up and has lost all belief. It’s a team with injuries and poor in quality upfront but I still think we’ll be fine this season.
