2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

We're again 1 of 6 that could go down. Wolves finding form has me concerned. I'd begun to pencil them in as relegated.

We'll probably just survive without any incoming players because we do seem to find a purple patch of results (another points deduction and even that looks iffy though)

But we need pace in this team and if it can be brought in January we must ensure that. I have zero faith in TFG getting a takeover done in the next few weeks though.
Wolves will be fine. They’ve had the run that we’re just about to have and they actually played fairly well in some of the games. Now they’re getting into the easier fixtures they’re picking points up and looking decent.

They have far, far more quality than we do.

Wolves have just come off a run of games against top opposition, similar to the run we're about to go on. We, however, have just finished a run of games against much weaker opposition and are circling the drain because we have a manager that treats the start of the season like an extended pre-season. Wolves will be miles clear of us by Christmas if we keep this no mark in charge. They'll likely leapfrog us when we play them in two games time.

He'll get us safe. He's not really the problem. Not having forwards who can score is.

27 shots we had and got 5 on target.

Dyche doesn't get to take those chances the players do.

The trouble is though his style relies on endless spamming of crosses and also players just running and taking pot shots from edge of the box. McNeill did waste a couple from promising positions first half.

It is a very 2000s style. I actually prefer that type of Football to now but it's not really going to succeed when so many clubs have perfected endless passes and then you play a quick counter to the byline and drag the cross back to six yard box where someone is arriving for a tap in.

I'd personally sack him now and get in Potter before another relegation rival (Leicester/West Ham) do. Yes it's a gamble as he might not hit the ground running but I'd like to think by March you'll see some of the creatives in the team like Ndiaye and Lindstrom really start to come good and helped by a couple of other signings.

I think that's the best hope for the season. Give Dyche another month with the fixtures and it could be a really desperate situation the next one inherits.

Could do it as early as Saturday if they beat Bournemouth at home which is a winnable game for them.

Wolves were either going to start winning as soon as they regularly started playing bottom half teams (and Fulham aren't even that) or they'd have sacked O'Neill and got a bounce from that. Not like they've got terrible players in key positions as Cunha is excellent if he can stay fit.

When I was getting into football in the 80`s there were teams like West Ham, Coventry, Southampton and QPR that were always at the foot of the table trying their best not to be relegated and never moving up the table. They were always there to throw in a bad result but we were a top team and could at least expect a challenge at the top of the table and some good runs to the later stages in the cups. We have now become that club that is just aiming to stay in the league and get nowhere in the cups.

Exactly what Villa and Newcastle were if you look back to their positions in November 2014. It got worse for both of those before it got better aswell in that era but at least shows things can eventually improve but you need right manager and then 4-5 of their signings to all come off at same time.

Wolves position in the table was always a false one given their run of fixtures. It was so important for us to take advantage of our easy start to the season to create a buffer between us and the bottom teams and also to instill confidence in the squad. It's a huge missed opportunity and a massive failing by management that we lost our first four games and then managed barely over a point a game after that. We're in for a torrid winter I fear. Dyche is a major part of the problem, not the only problem, but a big one nevertheless.

Only good thing is Palace still have a tough run up to Xmas. They have all of Newcastle, Man. City and then aways to Brighton and Arsenal in their next five so won't be getting too many points from that hopefully.

Wolves I expect to be comfortable mid table by January 1st.

Palace, Southampton and Leicester we need to hope continue to be as poor as they have been thus far. Until such time as we ditch the current management team, this is all we can cling to.

And to think, people still wouldn’t take Moyes until the end of the season, who would see us at least 15 points clear of any danger by the time summer rolls around. Clear passage to the new stadium. Make not mistake, if the present manager remains in charge we are in serious trouble here. All of that hype surrounding the new stadium, new owners and new beginnings is wiped away because it all begins in the championship. Unthinkable.
