2024/25 Relegation Thread

Ok so by that logic we are exactly were we should be and Dyche is maximizing his squad, the players are at their best right now?

hahaha

Look at what our net spend is for the last 5 years. Compare that with Forest for example. Even Bournemouth have a net spend of over 140m more than us.

This is a reaaaaaaaally bad group of players, with a terrible manager to boot.

Think it would be a good balanced back 3. Unfortunately to play that formation good wing backs are needed which we don't have
You could play McNeil as the left wing-back as he has done a couple of times for us, or Harrison/Young.
With a back three, Patterson or even Dixon's defensive weaknesses would be less exposed.
It'd add a bit more threat from set pieces too, with O'Brien being 6'5".

Would love to not have to be hoping and praying for three worse teams every season, we need to “change the story” when we get the new owners in.

Just look at Forest, it didn’t need much more for us to be in their position this season, but we’ve completely blown our own legs off as usual, and been talked into trouble by this coward manager and played into trouble by the coward players who have been coached backwards.

Need RvN to fail miserably at Leicester and they drop, as I think wolves and palace have got enough about them, probably more than we have. Hope wham keep getting beat, but think unlikely.

There will be one season when all three promoted teams don’t drop back down, please god not this one.

Sick of having to watch and support whoever the teams around us are against all the time.

Our squad is made for 3-4-2-1 but we wont move away from 4-4-1-1 with Scotch Egg head at the helm.

Funnily enough he had played this formation a couple of times last season (Burnley away, Villa away in he league cup, & wolves away, he also played it v Bournemouth in the final game the season before)
The wolves away performance must of damaged Dyche, as he never thought of doing it again

Our net spend is low because we have sold 3 players for big money Richy Gordon Onana almost 150mil.

If someone comes and signs Branthwaite for 80mil and Pickford for 50mil and then we go out and spend 30 mil on 4 players, 2 replacements for the players sold plus another two 30 mil players our net spend would be minus 10 mil.

Would we be stronger, if the recruitment was right, probably yes.

And replaced those quality players with what?!

This is the entire point a few of us are trying to make.

Nobody is defending Dyche, I think we all can’t wait to see the back of him (and this entire period of our history - Moshiri has ruined us on the pitch) but a fair few of us are also pointing fingers at the players. They’re crap as well - recruitment being our biggest issue for 7/8 years now.

I agree the trajectory isn't good for Everton. Go back a handful of years to the players we had under Carlo. Go back a tad more to the Martinez era. Quality much better (not so well managed). The overall impact on the playing side is there for all to see.

However I wish to dispel this myth about our current players being the reason we are 💩. My own opinion, the players can do far better than this. Last season we were effectively mid-table, with improvement, we could be top 10 and maybe challenging for Europe. It's not a huge leap. But not with this manager. I'd say get another manager they'd get more out of this team than Dyche. Dyche is limited. So too his coaching methods. Players don't improve, they flounder. Unless you're a Dyche favourite. The whole Dyche ethos winds me up. The starts to seasons August / September are atrocious under him. The football is anti-football. It's so negative.

Remember when we had Martinez and we sang "the school of science, is on its way back". It didn't take much. He got us our highest PL points tally. Under Carlo we got up to 2nd. 2nd! Dyche and his senior (Thelwell) will have you believe that 17th is our aim and that's all that matters.

Last season we were effectively mid table whilst playing peak Dyche ball, all the luck injuries wise and set piece wise was going for us. We had a terrible xG and xGA (if not for blocks) and we rode our luck massively.

Very similar side to the one that struggled under Benitez, Lampard - there’s no quality in it. No athleticism, no pace, no technical quality.

Another thing that people often gloss over is that many of the “surprise” wins/points we got from the likes of RS/Chelsea/Newcastle/Spurs were during by far their worst form of the season. We actually got very lucky with our schedule last year as we played a lot of teams at the best possible time. This doesn’t seem to be happening this year (last seasons luck we’d have probably played Man Utd a few weeks back rather than yesterday)
