The extent to which some fans seem to want to be down there is terrifying.

Nobody wants to be down there. Having standards is not enough. You need a team (and ye possibly a better manager) to carry out those standards. But as has been mentioned probably thousands of times at this rate, Everton have a longstanding problem of opening teams up who sit back at home.
