I have a problem, there is no one else to help and i have found them so i would like to hire the G.O. Team.

Basically i'm on a monthly contract with 3 mobile, £5 a month for 300 texts and 150 mins, does me fine.

A year ago i broke the phone i bought when i took out the contract so started using an old phone of mine. It worked ok till about 3 months ago when i recieved a message from 3 saying my sim would no longer work in the phone i was using and i need to get a new one from them.

I ignored it and kept using the phone anyway. It worked ok for a bit longer until i got the same text message again so i phoned them up and they said i have to get a new phone free from them but i had to go onto a new minimum 18 month contract. But i didn't want the shitty phone they offered nor a new minimum contract.

And now my sim has started working in any phone i actually own. And apparently its in my contract with them that i have to use the actual phone i bought from them with the sim.

I would phone them up but i'll just get some guy reading off a screen trying to get me to go on another minimum contract.

So i was thinking i could just buy a second hand phone but one which is locked to the 3 mobile network only, will that actually work?

Or i might cancel my contract and go pay as you go but i wanna keep my number, is it possible?

You can go pay-as-you-go an keep the same number. Iv just done it. Unless your contract is over, you'll have to pay to get out of it.

call them and threaten to leave, say you are willing to pay the termination fee. You are then in a powerful position as they will grovel to keep you, at which point you turn round and tell them the only way for them to keep you on their bucks is to let things continue as they are. They will undoubtedly accept as £5 a month for them is better than no money for them

The minimum 18 month contract i signed ran out ages ago so presumably i would just have to give a months notice to leave. I would do that but it would onvolve talking to someone who is just reading a script off a screen (and i think their call centre is in India, i certainly had trouble understanding the guys accent last time) so i don't really fancy the call them up option.

Im with 3 and have the N95 but so far no problems, I dont see how they can know if your using another phone? Is the one that you are using unlocked for all networks? Can only see them knowing that if your phone is for tmobile or orange etc and your using a 3 sim in it but it seems a stupid thing by them.

I just checked the text i got and it said it was cause i was using a 2g phone rather than a 3g phone and as far as i know by doing so it costs 3 mobile extra money so i guess they can tell from that.

I would just buy any 3g phone but i wanna make sure my sim will still work in it rather than only working in any 3 branded phone.

Apparently its in the contract i have to use the phone i was originally given. I presume its because its a 3g phone and they blocked my sim causing i was using it in a 2g phone which costs them extra money.

I'm hoping any other 3g phone will work ok as its 3g even though its not the original one which i cant use cause its broken.

I might start using carrier pigeons!

They offered to, but it was some shitty crappy bog standard one i didn't want, and i had to commit to another minimum 18 month contract.

I can understand them offering me a shitty basic phone considering i'm only paying £5 a month now rather than the £45 i was when i got a decent phone out of them but i aint signing another minimum contract.

I did think about going in to where i got the phone from but that was a phones 4 u store and they are [Poor language removed] in there but it looks like 3 themselves have a store in Norwich so i could just go in there.

Problem with that is they will probably just give me some bullshit like most salespeople do and i'll fall for it! Might be my best bet though.
