Player Valuation: £150m

The gist: 442 formation weakened by the events of the WC...expect ramifications for the PL.

Talking of knock on effects for the PL, I wonder if we'll see something this season that seemed rife at the WC: managers looking at how things pan out with their initial strategy and then not baulking at the idea of hooking players off and changing things around well before the break? I thought that was a breath of fresh air myself.

Of course, Moyesie will still wait until the 80th minute to ring the changes like.

Oh great, more uber defensive football.

Don't get me wrong, 4-2-3-1 is great, but just with the right players.

People get bogged down with formations. It's like an article of faith. Teams tailor the way they line up to meet the needs of playing a particular opposition they face on any given day, and the way a match unfolds. It's all about quality of player. Essentialy you need a solid back four and a strong spine to the team. How you organise around that is a less pressing matter.
