Its a bit like why was Usmanov willing to openly try and acquire Arsenal, but only use his lacky to acquire Everton, while at all times rejecting accusations he was the effective owner or anyway involved other than as a sponsor. Arsenal was a status symbol to him, like Chelsea was a status symbol to Abramovich, like Man Utd are to Jassim.

Sure, they could buy us for peanuts, but they already have Newcastle and its going to take years to make them into the same level as City etc. Why would they buy at that level again? Only buying higher level clubs makes sense.
