Recommend this to any film buff who in particular grew up around the 80s/90s and watched those “action stars”. Some egos on these fellas especially Steven Seagal.
This bit got meThe petty workplace politics and bizarre class system are the highlights.
The Chef du personale demanding he shave off his mustache off with seemingly no reason and getting into scraps with the waiting staff are outright hillarious. It gets very Python-esque at times even if unintentionally![]()
Remember reading this out of morbid curiosity when I was very young, one of the most important books I’ve ever read in my life about how humanity can be destroyed by ideology.View attachment 302481
The Last Nazi - The Life and Times of Joseph Mengele.
A truly harrowing read, but fascinating at the same time.
The first part deals with his early life and transformation from a scholar with Nazi leanings, to an enthusiastic participant in the Final Solution within Auschwitz and the latter part of the book deals with the ease at which Mengele and thousands of other war criminals, were able to escape and settle in South America with the blessings of their various governments.
You have to be mentally ready to read the first part of the book.

This is fantastic read and makes me nostalgic for my kitchen days.As I’ve grown up I’ve come to love Tony Bourdain more and more, quite an interesting person. I knew his kitchen confidential book was the basis for some of his success so I bought a copy off eBay, and it’s a signed copy. Can’t believe it!
My kitchen is full of chef books. My favourite one is a day at el bulli, wish I had have gotten the chance to visit. The entire story is one that all successful teams mirror. This is fantastic read and makes me nostalgic for my kitchen days.
He covers it all, scabs and all.
He was a great loss. He was never a fantastic chef but he was a great author and personality.

Quite a decent book, not usually my kind of read ,but half price with a copy of the Irish Times made it irresistible .
One man's journey into the banking world and how it really affected his health.
