We were just talking in work to see if we could name all the stars from the 1990's Netherlands team. I searched the 94 team and you forget about how amazing that side was!!

Some of the names were unbelievable.. What other squads were better than this below?? I cant think of many.

Yeah a cracking side. If they got on better they might win something!

1988 team was legendary, amazing that the 80s Dutch side never went to a World Cup.

1990s Dutch side was just constant infighting, at one point it deteriorated along race sadly around Euro 96, that was such a poison changing room where the majority of that squad and starting 11 was the great Ajax team, 1998 was it's peak when they got it together but will looked upon as another wasted decade and era of promise that never delivered for Dutch football.

What a ridiculous array of talent they had in the 1990's, all playing for the best sides in Europe at a good average age before the players even hit their peak years, then early to mid 00s you add a Stam, Van Nistelrooy, Mackay to it and still doesn't deliver. It has to be something in the Dutch psyche, it's like a self destruct button, egos and infighting just diminishes their talent.

How many of those could have represented Suriname? That would have been even more amazing.

Arrogance and stubbornness have been the downfall of many a great Dutch team.

I’d say the 74 team was the best. Losing the WC final against Germany because the players disregarded the coach’s instructions and instead decided to try and humiliate their opponents wherever possible instead of concentrating on winning the actual game.
I've reached an age where I forget most things within a nanosecond of thinking it, but I can still name the majority of the Dutch 74 team without giving it a second thought. Strange thing the brain!

This.
Not to mention having hookers & fans over the night before the final.

They didn't try to humiliate their opponents really, i think that's a lot of myth-making after the event (and based on quotes that happened beforehand from the like of Van Hanegem, who really did want to humiliate them because of how his family suffered in WWII). They barely had time to, as following Neeskens opener, the West Germans roared back at them straight away, and it was game on. They obviously respected the German team, otherwise they wouldn't have kicked Holzenbein every time he received the ball- he was obviously earmarked as a key threat- and tormented the Dutch throughout. A great match overall, which deserved to go to extra-time and possibly a replay.

The Italian squads of the 90s were pretty stacked too IIRC

The 1988 Netherlands squad for starters. Quality over quantity.

Gullit and van Basten were absent by the 1994 World Cup. Van Breukelen was a far superior goalkeeper to Ed de Gooij. Koeman and Rijkaard were slightly over-the-top by 94. Bergkamp was a few years off his peak.

The Dutch blew their biggest chance of World Cup glory with their attitude in 1990 - and Gullit's injury-plagued season.
