I think it's clear to most Evertonians that we need reinforcements in midfield.
Lets say we have £10/11 mil available (a bit far fetched maybe - I know) in January after flogging Heitinga (£5/6mil) and buying Forren (£3mil) and lets say we have half the Rodwell cash available to spend.
With Felli playing so well at Attacking Mid, and Gibson back to partner Osman, what we need is more depth, and somebody who could fit straight into our team.
So who would you have, and what position.
Here are my examples:
Defensive Mid:
For me, if we are going to continue with Fro up front, we need an enforcer in the middle of the park. The ideal candidate for this would be Etienne Capoue, the defensive midfielder from Tolouse. A big, powerful player, good in the air and on the ground. Would really provide us with more defensive security alongside Gibson, but his power could turn defence in to attack in seconds. Cost ~ £7-9 mil, i'd imagine. Spurs and Arsenal have also being linked.
Centre Mid/Box-To-Box:
If however, Moyes' is happy to leave the defensive duties to Gibson, then we could really do with another CM to provide competition for Osman. Moussa Sissoko, again from Tolouse, would be ideal. Pacey, powerful and has good technical abilities. He would really provide another option in our midfield, capable of carrying the ball from our own 18-yard box to our opponents - traditional box-to-box. His contract runs out in the summer, so they'll be plenty of teams looking at him. Newcastle are said to be favourites, and Juve have also been linked. I reckon though, if we really wanted him, we could make it happen for around £6-7 mil.
No.10:
If we decided to move Fro back, or give him a good back-up, then Lewis Holtby would be ideal. I've watched him as much as i can over the last 4/5 months, and he's really starting to kick-on at Schalke; his stats speak for themselves - Holtby has 3 goals and 7 assists in 20 games this season. He's quick, sharp and has a good range of passing and vision. If we somehow managed to sign him, he'd provide quality competition/back-up for Fellaini in the hole, and could also play on either wing. He could even play in CM if needed, although his defensive qualities aren't the best. He can leave Schalke for free in the summer, and like Sissoko will have plenty of potential suitors in January. Cost ~ £6/7mil, but it'd go up if there was a bidding war. Plus, his Dad's an Evertonian... but he likes Arsenal's style. Well we pretty much dominated them for 75 minutes on Wednesday Lewis...
Alright lads, your turn. I might turn the concept of this thread into a blog soon, so any player suggestions would be welcome and i'll put them in the blog when I write it.
