As some know, I tend to look out for the newbies as I'm a bit of a softie, so after receiving a few pm's from guys who were a little unsure on how things work here, I thought I'd help out by offering a brief overview of the forum and it's features.
Hope the Admin team don't mind me posting it.
Let's start with the Home Page. http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/
Things are fairly self explanatory on the Home page, but there are a few things on here which may be of help:
Latest news and competitions may interest you.
You'll see the donation button, and the Twitter button ( blue bird ). If you use the Twitter button, it will take you to our Twitter page where you can read up to date news, and articles regarding our club or general topics of discussion.
GrandOldTeam (grandoldteam) on Twitter
The Toffeweb and signed EFC Memorbilla are self explanatory, but well worth a push of the button.
ToffeeWeb : The Independent Everton FC Website
Andy Gray Everton Legend signed autoograph
Extrabet kindly sponsor the forum.
Donating: You'll notice some members have the words 'forum supporter' next to their name. This means that they've donated towards the running costs of the forum. One little treat forum supporters get is that they are able to see who has left them reputation, regardless of whether the person signs it or not.:yahoo:
We'll get to the reputation later.
Lower down, you can see who is online.
Members who's names are in black are moderators, and you can click on any of the names and it will take you to that persons profile page, where you can see what they're viewing, and leave them a message, or pm them. Underneath are the newest members to the forum, and todays birthdays.

Mark forums read: This is a handy little tool that gets rid of all the clutter of threads both in the User CP section, and also the New Posts section.
Once you've read the threads you wanted to, and nothing else interests you, before you log off, click this button, and when you return, only new posts will be displayed, saving you from having to trawl through everything.
Doing this also helps forums to run better, as the forum doesn't have to search everything you've viewed from your records every time you return.
Be sure to start threads in the correct forum so as not to give the moderators a headache, and read the stickies in each section that are there to help you.

So that's the Home Page.
Let's look at the forum:
On the top of the page, you'll see links.
Play around with these and get used to what they all do. The 2 I use most are the New Posts and User CP.
New Posts shows fresh discussion since you logged in, and the User CP will show threads that you've actually replied in, or started amongst other things.
The Club hosts information regarding our beloved football club, and The Site does the same about our forum, and it's history.
The Search bar helps you locate discussions by entering key words, and has an advanced section where you can also enter the username of the member you want to locate etc.
Quick Links is a great tool to help you navigate yourself around the forum.

POSTING:
You'll notice that on each members posts, there is information regarding each member.
Join Date - Posts - Points -Reputation ( green or red squares)
The points system is your virtual cash for VBookie
VBookie is a virtual betting shop that allows each member to have a little tipple on every match using the points that you have accumulated. If you run out of points, you are awarded 50pts in which to bet again. Will you be the VBookie Champ?
This can be found in the Games section of the forum before each match, and you can place your bets on the options given. This is very kindly organised by Neiler.
http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/games/1570-what-vbookie-points.html
An example of this can be found here: http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/games/25162-vbookie-arsenal-vs-everton.html
Other games of interest are the Grand Old Team fantasy football league, and the Weekly Tipster league, which start at the beginning of every season, and can be found in the stickies of the Games section. ToffeeDan kindly organises this.
Reputation:
These are the little green or red squares that appear on the right hand side underneath the Join Dates etc.
You can leave reputation for each member by pressing on the scales symbol of each members posts. Green squares show a member has received a greater percentage of positive reputation from other members, and red squares mean they've received a greater percentage of negative feedback etc.
This really isn't to be taken too seriously though, but will give you an idea of whether you are blending in with the general consensus. Hovering over the squares gives you a pop up indicating your reputation level, which is just fun names assigned to 0-10, 10-20 etc etc.
Report post to Moderators:
The red triangle gives you the option of reporting a post that you deem unsuitable. Doing this alerts the Mods to the post, so they can give it their attention, and offers members the opportunity of not getting involved personally in flame wars etc by reacting directly.
View First Unread
If you've replied in a thread, you'll also see a tick sign with 'view first unread' in the top left corner of each thread.
This will take you to the point where you last posted so you can read onwards all the new replies.
There's some great features on this forum too, such as copying and pasting articles from elsewhere, including pictures which I use a lot.
If you want to add a Youtube link, then write [media]Post the url inbetween, and close it with [/media). I've used a ) so as not to activate the code, but you would obviously use ].
There's loads more, but that's just a few quick basics.
Hope it helps a few of you to settle in.
Please delete this thread if not appreciated, as I was bored and thought I'd pass the time waffling.
Hope the Admin team don't mind me posting it.
