Reo-Coker.

I suspected due to information at the time that he had been disruptive at west ham and that rumours of his gambling were likely true, then i considered how he got to where he is.

this isnt a person that came through the youth team route into football, he is a person that played saturday/sunday non league football for the love of playing.

this makes him stand out because he doesnt have the contacts and relationships built up with other pro's and coaches during his teens that others do.

signed by wimbledon and then snapped up by west ham, it appears the world is at his feet, AND he is given the captaincy at 21 years old.

It appears in this case that it could have been 'too much too young' having no pro football history then shoved into the limelight with the burden of the team on his shoulders coupled with potential unrest in the squad along with a power struggle at ownership/boardroom level AND managerial change is it any wonder reo-coker along with some other players failed to shine last season.

why exactly he was singled out by the upton park regulars instead of anyone else is a bit perplexing, could it be that he wasnt a life long hammer and a product of their system that enabled certain parts to identify him as the so called 'reason' for the sides slump.

to conclude, a good player doesnt become a bad player overnight. if villa sign him for 7mill then they could be onto a winner.

I have to agree with you suits, anytime ive hearrd Reo Cooker speak ive been inpressed hes actually a pretty articulate guy for your run of the mill footballer schooled by a club in "media response".

Unfortunately as i argued in the Joey Barton, the media latch on to an image of afootballer and drive it, to the extent that fans have an illusion of a players presona that is not realistic. Yeah these young guys make mistakes but so has everyone at their age and i would whave enjoyed making a few more with the reddies thay have available. Infortunatley i beleive we have entered a media culture in football were the press define the persona of the player to be presented to the public.

With Reo Cooker and Barton i would like to beleive that the more insightfull football fans can recognise the media agenda and see through the majority of the hype/tripe/and sensationlisation that the media use to sell papers and keep stories ongoing.

As an Irish man, i genuinely beleive that the England international team have consistently under acheived for one reason and one reason only, media hype, the pressure and how they whip the public in to a state of frenzy has a huge impact on the players. I really beleive they could have a world cup and a few european championships under their belt only for this.

Anyhow rant over, and getting back to point i feel it has been particularly unfair the level of critcicm and charicter manipulation Reo Cooker has had at west Ham this year his own fans turning on him was a disgrace. Ok his form hast been as it was but hes in his early 20s and 9 out of 10 young players will have an off season until they learn to be consistent. Can just say i think we should be mindfull of this with Vic and Vaghan and our expectations of them in the future.

Good post- exactly what Ive been thinking. I think he would add to our squad immensely and if we didnt sign Manny i would be very plesaed if we got Reo Coker.

Reo Coker didn't become England U21 Captain for nothing. A good player who should improve now he's away from those pricks at West Ham. Strangely West Ham used to be my favourite "London team" as they always played nice football. Hate them with a passion these days. Wish they had gone down and hope they still do.

Worth noting despite his young years he has captained:

All his Club Sides.
A Club to a win in the Championship Playoff.
Club out at the F.A. Cup Final.
England Under 21's

Yeah he must thave serious charicter defects?
