I'm afraid that 40 years where hardened criminals have been seen as victims of society has lead to a breakdown, where the criminal-classes now believe they have every right to do as they please.
Partly to blame for this is the left-liberal idea that it is somehow wrong to believe that the law exists to gain retribution. Instead, we've focused on vague concepts of 'harm' leaving aside the notion of 'right and wrong'.
Extreme right-liberalism, that practiced by Thatcher et al, also needs to look at itself. The view that individuals are supreme and have no duties to society has created a country with selfish gits are too wrapped up in their pursuit of petty wealth to give a stuff, at least as long as they're unaffected.
