Has anyone had, and fixed this problem?

I have Vista Ultimate 64, and this advpack.dll error is driving me mad, and preventing me from playing certain games, installing direct x, or updating windows etc.

I've tried different replacement dll's to no avail.

I don't have the original Vista Ultimate 64 disk, so can't repair the system, or reinstall / format it etc, as the pc was a gift and it was already on it.

Does anyone have any experience of this problem, or at a long shot have Vista Ultimate that they could burn me a copy so I can reinstall?

Driving me up the wall at the mo. :(

Download the dll and put it where it is meant to go. That worked for me when I got dll errors on xp.

Yep, I've tried replacement dll's but without success. :(

Tried lots of sites for info too, but yet to read anything that fixed the problem.
I might uninstall all of my microsoft updates, but worried that it might be a bad idea seeing that I can't update anything back.

Thanks m8.:)
It's certainly a possibility, though be careful of that site. It has yieldmanager in the address bar at the bottom which is spyware according to Spybot SD.(y)

Here is a typical situation.

One thing I see there in the background is Steam...is this error only common with Steam games? I'm going to be limited on help because I bypassed Vista.

No, it's rife across the board.
It's part of the installation system. I'm currently trying to install installer 4.5 but having problems.
It says ' not enough room ' when I run it, and if I extract it, the exe's don't do anything. Looking for instructions as I write.

Grr...DLL errors are a b*tch too. It's short for Dynamic Link Library which means they can be used by all and sundry as far as apps go.

I just did a file search on my WinXP Pro system and that DLL comes up in 4 different spots for me BB. Do the same and see how many times it comes up...you might have to replace each one of them to find the offender. Be careful though, since you're running 64-Bit you might need 32-Bit versions as well depending on which folder it's in. You might've already done this...I'm just starting from the bottom here.

Yea, been there lol. There are actually quite a lot. I thought about messing with each one then my bottle went.
Have left a few messages with friends, but the buggers have laughed at me for becoming a noob over night:lol:

It happens to everyone...their time will come, anyone who messes about with PC's should know not to take the piss because it will come back to bite your arse.

The fact that it's the one in the sys32 folder in a bit telling...when did this start happening?

Out of curiosity I'm going to reboot into Win7 RC...see how many times it comes up in there.

**Amazingly, only once...and I've got more games installed on this than my XP Pro partition. Strange, that...it was in the sys32 folder as well. Also just noticed it's an Internet Explorer extension. The version on my Win7 partition is 8.00.7100.0, which is the exact same version # as IE.

I'd say, for sh*ts and giggles, yank out IE and see what happens...**
