Age of a footballer

Hibbo

Player Valuation: £10m
I wish to start a topic on the age of a footballer. Today a footballer can play for longer because of health and improvements in fitness. Look at David James he is older but a good player. Today a lot of players have more time to mature and will peak in the 30's. I think we should look at this and see average players in their 20's may be good in there 30's, what do you think?

Turner is still only young.

Maybe you should have said Paulo Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro, Vieri, Nedved. And it depends, I mean years ago they would play on and on untill their 50s or something. So it could be said that players are retiring younger?

Yes, I agree you have a great football mind. We should return to days when players retired older, think of the experience, there would not be need to sign new players. Saving money and creating legends!

Football is no longer a game m8, but a business, and older players, despite their talent and experience are a dying commodity in todays game, as clubs are becoming more and more concious of sell on values, and training players in the way of the club, so short contracts tend to be the nature of the transfers.

The ones that remain tend to be put out to pasture in lower league clubs, with the exception of the lucky few.

I'll bet before the end of the decade that old players will no longer have a place in the sport, or at least on the field.

But in thinking of business, think of this. Not buying players, how much money can you save? 22 million pounds in one year.

Do you mean if a team has an average age befitting the nature of the thread?
I don't know a single team that has only mature players in it. That would be a rather dangerous situation to find itself in, hence why clubs have academies and youth programmes.
Managers tend to look at the younger players that they can get cheap, hence (once more) the FA looking into the situation.
