[imga=left]http://www.carling.com/media/player_images/player-image-41484.jpg[/imga]Members of GrandOldTeam have voted defender Joleon Lescott as their Everton player of the season.

Since joining from Championship outfit Wolves in the summer, Lescott has been inspirational in Everton's UEFA Cup qualification, with calls from the Goodison faithful for him to be selected in the England squad.

The central defender, who has been often played "out of position" at left back, has excelled all season and looks to have a very promising career ahead of him.

The official player of the season, Mikel Arteta, was voted 2nd by our members.

The difference between Arteta and Lescott is simple.

Consistency.

Arteta lacks it at times and Lescott never has, even when lescott made a mistake it was one blight on an otherwise perfect 90.

How the hell arteta got the nod ahead of lescott is beyond me, lazy voting!

Come on Rob, you can see that the best little Spaniard we know has made the difference this season. Most of our goals from his invention and twinkle toes. He turns draws into wins, thats what the Player of the season does.

Shouldnt take away from the fact that Lescott was my number two though. He's been solid and had a great first season. The test of consistency as you points out will be if he can do it for the following season, just like Mikky.

Glad you got here first. Let me say Lescott has been a relevation and constantly playing out of position to include Stubby was paramount to a successful year for us.

But nobody in our team personifies Everton at a extremely high level than Arteta cool as a cucumber notching the penalty with so much on the line last weekend. Midfield is the most difficult to link the strikers and help at the back. So much energy is expended plus his knowledge of the game is phenominal to say the least. Unbelievable talent won games by himself when injury layed ruin to us. Nimble a foot and concise on his passes and 9 EPL goals from his position thats world class. To me Arteta was Moyes finest move to bring to our club with Lescott a close second. Unheralded and not proven at EPL level makes me hope Moyes has a couple more up his sleeve for the summer for us.

And on quite a few of those occasions, it has been Lescott keeping those games at draws for Arteta to turn to wins. Lescott for me, Arteta a very, very close second.

Sorry lads I thought we actually had a vote on here, I have gone for Lee Carsley, see separate thread

Thing is chico, and correct me if I'm wrong I haven't checked, has our goals scored soared this season?

I don't think it has, you see that huge number in the GD column?

Joleon Lescott. ;)

True enough Rob but don't forget no Weir. Stubbsy unbelievable revival year. Yobo solid as a rock and Timmy Howard hasn't made many clangers either. Like I said before Lescott was a important cog at the back to be sure. A great player but to win Arteta put a stamp on many game either assisting or doing the business himself.

Well, one thing I will up from your post is howard being superb this year, but as for singling out arteta for every attack... thats plain wrong.

sure he has been at the heart of things on occasion, but not always. this is PLAYER of the season not attacker for the majority of the season...

Big shout out to all the consistent ones in our team, howard, lescott, carsley, stubbsy, hibbo & AJ.

If only the rest of our lads could match those names, week after week superb at what they do.

Agreed on the less sexy just being business like. Monty's pick Carsley Assassin:lol: fits the bill here. Feels good to be able to pick a number from such a successful campaign. Every fan can and does see things sometimes a little different in perspective. I tend to admire the engine room more so than the glamour strikers or the backbone of the defense. However, they are all important to make a great team to be sure.(y) We are a great team and demonstrated as such this year.

here here to that post mike.

What about our GD when we finished 4th though?

then again, our defence was pretty solid that year with only the attack being weak..

meh, I still applaud Lescott for being match in match out superb for every game.

Have to admit Rob Lescott was all business again yesterday. Very smooth on the ball and oozes confidence now. Hibbo I'm a little concerned about. Good to see Yobo being the iron man we knew he could be. He was patient when Weir & Stubbs were having their day a couple years back when we finished 4th.

Think we have lost any hance of getting Leighton Baines now seeing the Latics survived. Will he follow Jewel to pastures green.

Stubbs had a fantastic year. Great work ethic. I had him third myself but just by a fraction. Lovable character that enjoys talking on the forums.

Well, I had an intricate point system, that ran similar to the actim and opta stats, just waaaaaaay better, plugged all the info in and Lescott beat out Arteta for my vote.

:P
