2018/19 Andre Gomes

Said the same back in late November before we went on the poor run. Feel like because he looks classy on the ball, and we haven't had a midfielder who's looked like that for AGES, people have gone way overboard on him...

I believe this as well.... I'd rather find a way to keep Zouma than Gomes, if I had to only choose one....

Is it still blasphemous to say I still don't really understand the love-in? He just seems 'fine' to me - he's fairly good at keeping the ball and escaping pressure, but generally he just seems average/fine. That's not bad, just like...fine. And he's sooooo slow. But everyone seems to think he's the second coming - I don't get it - am I the only one?

He made a massive impact when he came in. When he was playing well we were winning, since his form has dropped, so has the teams.

Think it’s all caught up with him. He has quality, which he has certainly showed early on. He is slow, that’s a fact and at the moment he’s wearing diver’s boots running through mud. The test for him now is to get his second wind. Make no mistake, he’s absolutely goosed. I don’t think it helps when we still play like a team of three sections and all are static. Imagine being a creative midfielder and looking up in our team. Your heart must sink.

He has shown us the quality and now it’s up to him to show he has the physical and mental side of his game.

He'd have to have done pretty well in 4 months to have a 9 minute long video though mate

Oh yeh, and I think he's a class apart - or at least has the potential to be - from any midfielder we've had since Arteta.

But Mikel was something else. One of the best in the league in that playmaker role from 07-09.

Our form improved a hundred fold when he came into the team, it’s just dipped again recently.

yep, and it's no surprise that since Gomes' form dipped (which I think is just a genuine downturn in form combined with fatigue and a knock not helping) it's no surprise to see Gueye see more of the ball and his deficiencies show, and too, Gyfli go more onto the fringes (even though he is still involved in most of our good chances).

Need to get Gomes back and fully firing.

It must be down to the AGM, I dunno, but I'd have thought they'd have flown them all off on Sunday to Dubai or wherever. We had an eight-day break and for me now's the ideal time to go and do some warm weather training. Could have flown Sunday, come back tomorrow or Friday with 3/4 good days under their belts. Would have helped a ton with all the niggles as well I'd have thought.

Undoubtedly he's a classy footballer, able to receive the ball under pressure and move it on but If he's ever to be considered in the same class as the likes of Arteta he needs to have a greater influence in the most important area, the final third.

Yeah was only joking mate, absolutely loved Arteta back in the day. First flairy sort of player we signed in my life time

Do reckon Gomes can be better for us though

I'm not sure, Arteta had more in terms of end product imo. They're slightly different players tbf, but Gomes - if he stays - can definitely be a mainstay for years.

Aye, tbf, when he gets up there he creates things, usually. Again, a bit like Gylfi, not really his fault if our crap forwards don't finish it off.

That cut-back for Richarlison's goal v Watford, he's done about six or seven times already, yet nobody had been there. Rich obviously has the ability to finish.
