I think you can get away with him in midfield when he is covered by Allan and Doucoure. But, even then I am not sure what he contributes.
I would love to be proven wrong but while Gomes is in the team I can't see us as genuine top 4 challengers.

Would there be a place for him in the Utd team, Chelsea team, Leicester team ? , I don't think so.

I can imagine Mourinho using him in the Spurs midfield .

68 appearances: 1 goal, 3 assists. It’s time to bin this fraud off.
Those stats are damning, but no need to call the man a fraud. To me a footballer can be termed a fraud if he routinely hides on the pitch, making himself unavailable for passes (eg; Schneiderlin.) or if he's a gobshite who is always ready to sound off, but doesn't back up his big talk. Yes, I'm talking about you, Delph.

I think Gomes feels strongly about the club, doesn't hide and is very frustrated with his own form. In the second half against Burnley he was trying to drive us forward and you could see his frustration building. I think his biggest problem is his slow turning/lack of pace off the mark. He often seems taken by surprise by opponents, and he does turn into trouble, which suggests lack of game awareness, and I wonder if part of that is down to lower confidence than he had pre-injury. Of course, he is diminished as a player since that happened.

Apart from his two-footedness, which was pointed out by someone else, his attributes are strength on the ball; he keeps the ball well in tight situations due to his balance and upper body strength, and ball recovery. But, he would probably do this more effectively in a slower league. But please don't brand a decent man a fraud.

FYI we have a better win rate when Gomes starts vs when he doesn't.

Doesn’t really count for anything. We had a better win record with Philip Neville in our team than without. It’s what he’s contributing to when he’s on the pitch that matters and he doesn’t really do anything, it doesn’t take stats to come to that conclusion, just your eyes.

If I had Doucoure and Allan playing alongside me in a midfield 3 and all I had to do was play sideways and backward passes while the team did all the nitty gritty stuff and we still won it wouldn’t mean we won because I was in the team.

Spot on.

I think he is not quick enough and his passing his erratic, his tackling is questionable and he picks up cards for niggly fouls.
On Sunday he stayed on when really he should of gone off instead of Tom.
He is a frustrating player who threatens to be good but just never makes it.
His goal tally is embarrassing and his shooting is limited.
I’m not sure whether the injury has affected him psychologically but he’s not the player i hoped he was.

Problem is who do you play now? Sig? Iwobi? I'd personally put Godfrey or Holgate in midfield we need legs.
Many other clubs would give younger, promising players a go. Not us, we keep playing the same old midfield players that continue to fail time after time.

I fail to see how the likes of Onyango can offer less than Gomes, I mean, it's almost impossible to offer less.
