Bayern Munich (when he was a teenager), Tottenham, money-no-object Newcastle, and now Chelsea, want or wanted AG, but he's apparently useless to a sizable number on this forum. Remember he's never played in a settled, confident side in his PL career and hardly had a decent CF to supply last season, but was still given accolades within and outside of the club. OK he's not the polished player he could be, but he's got time to become that. As others have pointed out, selling him sends out the message that we are are incapable of nurturing our best talent. And honestly, does anyone have total faith that the proceeds would be invested wisely?

There is an extremely good player in there, but until he stops his diving in an attempt to get free kicks, when he's made the wrong decision, and stays on his feet, he'll never even get close to reaching his full potential. Yesterday typified his game. In the first half our attacks broke down, mostly due to Gordon trying to get free kicks but in the second half we played much better, in no part because he stayed on his feet and beat players. No way can Gordon play the lone striker he needs to be in a position where he has a bit of space or can move for the ball. When he got moved from CF to outside, he played better and our attacks looked more fluent.
The fact he tries to win fouls has absolutely zero baring on how good a footballer he is.

All the best players in the world do it.

40 million quid won’t score or create any goals. We are massively short of strikers and it’s difficult to get players in.

The money will still be there in January or next summer. A decent season and he’ll be worth more. It would be crazy to sell now.

It would have bought both Cornet & Dennis with some change left over. Both out scored Gordon last season.

I like Gordon. He is the best of our wingers so to lose him would be very bad for our already nonexistent goal threat... But, we need more players in. As it stands, we aren't scoring. If selling him for 50m allows us to bring in at least two players who can score, I think we must take it.

Hope they put him on corners
He'd be lucky to start 10 games for them the entire season. In a roundabout way he might end up at a club better than Everton in a year or two, so the move might be an attractive one for him. £45m to Chelsea now, £16m to Brentford in two years time
