Think you'll find they're braces mate.

Boss country, I'd like to snag me a German girl.

Knew a German lad at uni, and apparently they don't really know about the rivalry that we supposedly have going on, but then I suppose if you got bummed twice in a century you wouldn't teach it to the next generations or brag about it.

Nah, they've just chosen a more formidable footballing nation as their rivals... The Dutch.

*Ducks*

Depends, are we playing any of the following:

Call of Duty 1, 2, Finest Hour, Big Red One, World at War
Medal of Honour 1, 2, Allied Assault, European Assault
Red Orchestra 1 and 2
The Saboteur
Prisoner of War

?

If no then we're quite all right.

Without trying to be inflammatory ..... The only people who really talk about the war are the English.... Sorry but that's the truth..... The welsh, Scottish and Irish ..... I ever hear them talk about it.... Might just be my experiences though.... And I too had family who fought and some who died in the war. I know I'm gonna get dry bummed for this post but hey ho.... I can only say what I see.

It's true that the rivalry from the perspective of the English is:

England vs Germany

rather than

Britain vs Germany

From the perspective of the Germans regarding the war it's more vs the Russians (who conquered Berlin and thus ended Germany's participation in the war, then took untold thousands prisoner for 4 years, my Opa among them) and Poles (who were treated horrendously by the German push for war, but today more Poles live in Germany than any Westerner countries).

The German doesn't much think about the English in terms of war rivalry. In terms of football rivalry, the German has more to worry about when Italy or Holland come to play. Poland & Russia too because of the war perspective. And lately Spain. You do hear the media sometimes call England vs Germany "Der Klassiker", but it's more in homage to the English focus on it rather than any German perception of the rivalry.

Basically, England sees Germany as the arch nemesis in matters football and war. But Germany sees other countries as its arch-rivals.

Britain as a whole has much less of an issue.

I think what England really (really) need is a successful international tournament. Success meaning similar to how Germany did in the 2006 WC: play exciting football for the fans to get right into and feel proud of, even in defeat.

So,,,,, you agree with me that the English are Pyar belters with more chips ontheir shoulder than any chip shop could ever cook ??

I've lived in Germany for the last 6 years or so. Love it here to be fair. In terms of football rivalry they kind of see us as a type of little brother - we keep trying to swing our arms and hit them and they just have their hands on our heads so we can't reach them. They have an ingrained fear of the Italians because they can never beat them and their most 'hateful' rivalry is agains the Dutch.

In a more general sense I think the Germans are fond of us English, I have always been well-received here as an Englishman. The chip on the shoulder is def on the English side, I really notice it when I come back home - it's not long before someone starts talking about the war.

And to echo what others have said: German women are seriously hot. Girls that would get worshipped and be unattainable in the UK are pretty much par for the course here. It's nice.

I'm from Austria, don't start to hate me lads.

I have our manager as profile picture, that should be enough.
