Arteta's Sulking

I read a post the other day questioning whether Arteta was miffed about Manny not joining. I feel that he is upset about something that is far more worrying for us fans. His form was fantastic until the Spain squad was announced. Omitted again, his form has dipped. I hope this doesn't persuade him that, come January, he wants 'the big four' or to move to Spain. If I was Moyes I would do everything in my power to get him into the international fold. If not I hear there is a good midfield being built in Valencia....

You just may be on to something but every player has an off period and I hope that is all this is with Mikel. Remember, we've had so many players drafted into the squad that an amount of balance would be lost for a little while between sections of the team. The lad is far too good for this to last long, I hope, but also remember Rangers and Sociedad although he is far more mature now(y)

I think it's just that he is given much much more attention from the opponent than he used to. He needs time to adjust to such treatment. He'll learn and get used to it sooner or later.

Its just a couple game slump. I think if he wanted to go to a big 4 or Spanish side right away he wouldn't have signed another contract (granted contracts mean nothing these days).

Its an absolute joke that he's not on the national side. The only players not in La Liga who play for the national team are Liverpool players and Cesc Fabergas. No wonder why Spain is even worse than England in national tourneys. So unless he moves back to Spain or goes to the red [Poor language removed] then he's never getting a call up.

If he does leave soon, I won't blame him. From the interviews I read it sounds like he truly likes playing for Everton and has always seemed to be honest and sincere about his plans. He's always said he wants to finish his career in Spain but he's young and there's still plenty of time for that in the distant future. However I know its killing him that he can't a call up. Therefore if he does split, I would lay all hatred onto that s#$% manager Aragones.

Its clear that Arteta is being singled out a danger man more and more by the opposition. If you look at the midfeild he dosnt really get the same protection as he may have done in a five man or when timmy is playing. I think its easier for him in the centre with cars to protect but the lack of an extra man in midfield means that other teams can pick him up easier or double up/ fou him either by a midfeilder/defender or both.

He went AWOL is a few games last season as well. I'm not going to read too much into it at this stage. Although the concern about no Spain call-up is legit.

Yep. The fact that he hasn't been called up let's me know the caliber of coaching at the national level for Spain. I mean who's watching the various players for them?

Perhaps that's why Spain is a perennial underachiever when it comes to international competition.

You couldn't name 4 Spanish midfielders right now that should be ahead of Mikky in the pecking order.

Garcia, Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta? Right now, on current form...no way. Mikky's ahead of all of them right now.

When we come in top 4 and get CL and win UEFA etc this season he won't leave ;)

He signalled his intent to stay when he signed the new 5 year deal.

I agree with Cal on this one. Does no one think that signing a five year deal may signal his intent to stay. This slump is just a slump created by the oppositions tactics. He signed for us even before we started chasing Manny again so any relation to that deal falling through is pure hype. The lad has been targeted by defenders this season which is stifling his game a bit. This will change once Pienaar and Baines bed in properly and Jags backs him up better, then the opposition will have to start hitting them also which will free up space for Mikel again. Till then we will have a free wing to run up(the left) as most of their attention will be on our right(or wherever mikel is). Things are going good at the moment yet some people are still trying to fabricate problems and accepting negative reasons when there are none there realistically.

i wonder what the pay structure is currently, mcfad threw a strop last summer over a new deal, and yakubu has come in this summer as the BIG signing - so i wonder what parity there is or isnt regards weekly wage.

and if yak is on 50k per week, that means he takes home 30k ;)
