Father in law has a full fridge of them mate as he grows them, dread going round their as he gives me a jar every time and hate the things, oh yeah pickled fing tomatos as well..

That would be Gueye, Witsel, Carvalho, Beisc, Barry, McCarthy, Gibson, Clevz and Davies vying for 2 maybe 3 positions. I can see McCarthy and Gibson leaving, but not really sure about anyone else.

same - I just don't think we 'need' three in, tbh.

Carvalho and Witsel would be brilliant, but perhaps a tad unrealistic (though you never know). But FWIW I can't see Gueye bringing anything more to us than what McCarthy could.

We'll see though. If the lad does sign I'll support him fully.

Think thats the thing, i get the impression from soundbites etc that Koeman marked us as a soft touch - and we have a lack of pressing, i think you could tell that from his interview the other night.

I think i read a stat the other night that McCarthy and Barry last season done the second least pressing of the ball in the league, they stood off. Now while i dont think thats news to us, its obviously something that he has noted because of the type of player we are going for. Strong, tall athletic and can press.

IF, and its a massive if, we got Witsel and Carvalho - and got Gueye as a backup/rotation, i could easily see 3 leaving. I think there is interest in McCarthy and i think if we get a couple of our targets we will see him move on.

I think the lack of pressing isn't just down to the players mate. Martinez didn't employ a 'high-press' in his tactics most of the time. He did in the first season, and look how good McCarthy was then.

I think McCarthy is more than capable of playing how RK wants us to, and is a better player than Gueye. He's had a knock and that's why him and Barry etc haven't played so far.

Yes, if we do get three in then I think he may be one of the ones to make way, but personally I'd be disappointed (at least at first) with Gueye in and McCarthy out.

Yeah i would only look to move McCarthy on when we get Witsel and/or Carvalho. I have no opinion on this Gueye as i have never seen him play, he is a stats sheet dream like, which if Walsh is following the Monchi route of scouting i understand why we have moved for him.

Thing is, i get Martinez had this stubborn way of playing, but i still think McCarthy stood off far too often, the amount of times he let players come at him 20 yards out was the most frustrating thing i have seen the last 2 seasons, probably more so because of how he pressed the first season.

If he signs hurrah, if he doesn't, whatever!

Been built up too much this one, he's hardly Maradonna.

The pain when we get him and he turns out to be Claus Thomsen the II will be unbearable for some.

I've seen enough of Gueye when covering Villa in patches last season to know that he's half-decent, but for me he's not on McCarthy's level.

That being said he was playing in a crap team so with better players he may well improve and be able to lift his game.

And I agree that yeh it's not all just down to RM. But the tenacious McCarthy at his best never stopped mate. I'd rather he be given a chance to show he can get back to that than be replaced at this moment (by somebody like Gueye. If it was Witsel and Carvalho they are both better players).

You mean he's not a bit of a jack of all trades and master of none? doesn't run around a lot doing nothing spectacularly.
