I was thinking of doing one next summer, maybe not so much back packing in it's truest form, I don't intend on ruffing it totally but won't be staying in 5 star hotels either. I was thinking of doing Italy and Greece and Greece but was also looking at some of the Adriatic countries. Starting to think of where to go now, probably half he reason to give myself a holiday too look forward too, we've not been away for years as we have been saving for a house and with covid.

Corfu is great base for this type of holiday mate, as all the ferries, that go to the other islands use Corfu.

I did a month of island hopping, never booked accommodation anywhere, as there’s always a surplus of apartments / rooms that haven’t been let and the holiday reps have a side line doing these rooms / apartments for cash.

It was as easy as walking into an English bar and asking if anyone knew of rooms going - someone always did.

One of my best ever holidays and got a month out of the money, I’d normally spend on a pre booked weeks holiday.

Great shout that but i'll have my mrs with me and i can't even think how bad my balls would be busted if that plan backfired about the accommodation lol

Lol.

There’s loads of “ hostel “ type places on all of the islands.

If you do your homework, there’s some really good ones - private rooms, great locations etc.

You can get to anywhere you want on the buses and ferries, which are shiz cheap.

You meet loads of people doing the same thing too.

From Corfu you can get the ferry over to Albania easily enough too I think. Beautiful coastlines in Albania and your money would go even further there too

Agree with the Greek island-hopping posts having spent a lazy summer hanging out down there many years ago. Turkey is another option - great bus services so easy to get around, plenty of hotels, and culture and history wherever you look. Stay away from the tourist coast resorts unless you are unwinding at the end and head for places like Konya (whirling dervishes), Cappadocia (rock dwellings) and Bursa (mountain and architecture).

Hi! I’ve done 3 island hops round the Cyclades over the past four years with my husband and don’t mind if anyone wants to pick my brains - my routes were (both 3 - 4 weeks long)

1. Fly into Mykonos then Paros, Amorgos, Koufonisia, Naxos and back to Mykonos for flight home
2. Fly to Santorini, then Folegandros, Milos, Kimolos, Sifnos and fly home from Athens
3. Fly to Athens, then Syros, Tinos, Paros, Sifnos, Serifos and back to Athens for flight home.

next year’s is in the planning- only got 2 weeks so flying to Mykonos and doing Schinousa, Amorgos and Naxos then back to Mykonos for flight home. Planning can be tricky as some places are booking up now for next year on the small islands, the flights are not out yet and the ferries only come out in March. Somehow we’ve managed it tho ?

Island hopping - it’s the best way to go ???
