Its been done before - Phillipe Lahm at Bayern Munich was converted from a full back to a defensive midfielder
Barry - but lacked the pace and energy of either of these 2 players

Given that no-one else has the ability to play there apart from Holgate - who would be excellent as the holding midfielder. I'd really would rather have either of these playing as the defensive midfielder compared to Davies

Coleman is one of the worst technical players in the team. He would be shocking in midfield, yes he will give a 100% and throw a few tackles in.

I honestly wonder if people actually watch us play

Martinez envisioned that Baines could move to the midfield.

He also envisioned that you don't really need to work on defensive drills, that enjoying your football is all you need to set you on a path to world domination and that Aruna Kone could bag plenty of goals for us.

....we aren’t in a relegation battle, so surely we shouldn’t be looking for a short-term fix. Baines might not even be here next season.

Coleman no, Baines also no. They're both too much of a wide player to be able to adapt to a central role. Barry was a LB/CB in his early days so could step up into midfield, like Holgate has been able to do. Lahm was just a world class player playing with other world class players, different kettle of fish.

Didn’t Baines play there once? He was pretty good from what I remember, but that’s just because he’s actually good at football in that he can control a ball and pass it to a teammate.

He’s now old and I wouldn’t do it.
