[imga=left]http://www.carling.com/media/player_images/player-image-78622.jpg[/imga]After being granted permission to speak to Everton over the weekend, a deal has now been agreed believed to be around £5m which will see England Under 21 full-back Leighton Baines an Everton player next season.

Baines: "I'd like to thank all the staff at Wigan,"

"I've had six fantastic years here and it was a really tough decision to leave that behind because this is the club who have given me the opportunity to make it in the game.

"It's been a real adventure here and it's one I'll never forget, but I need a fresh challenge.

"This is no reflection on all the help and support I've had here because I'm leaving some really good friends

"I'd also like to say a special thank you to all the supporters who have shouted for me these last six years and who voted me as the player of the year last season.

"That was a special moment that will always live with me.

"I think the team will do well under Chris Huthchings and I'm sure the supporters will get the success they deserve."

A good signing that will improve the first team, not just the squad.

Lescott will be able to move back into the centre and create, on paper, one of the strongest defences in the Prem.

Something like that anyway.

YAY!!!! Wave the flags for Baines day!!!

When we were linked with him, I was sceptical as I have only seen him a few times. Hopefully, he lives up to the hype you guys have built and he makes LB his for the next 5+ years!!!

Baines for England!!!

good signing we should be strong at the back this year. so thats £9m on youth team players that smith released but still good to have evertonians playing for us.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!

Finally a deal that goes through where others have shown interest in the player as well.

Now I feel very confident about our defensive line. With Baines and Jags to add stability and numbers there, we have a defensive line that can last for many, many years.

Ok, Moyes... time to look to strengthen the offence. (y)

Surely with Lescott, Yobo, Hibs and Baines at the back and Howard in net, we have a pretty good platform for a sustained push forward. Great signing. We need a little improvement in other area's but thus far i'm happy with our squad.

From previous edition of 4-4-2 Magazine:

Wigan Athletic left-back, born in Liverpool 11 December 1984

As a boy I supported... Liverpool. As a local lad I used to watch from The Kop when Robbie Fowler was making his name. I started out at Liverpool's Centre of Excellence and although it was disappointing when nothing came of it, I was lucky that both Wigan and Wolves wanted to sign me.

I spend my cash on... My son. He's only 11 months old, so I make sure he never goes without. I haven't bought him a mini Liverpool kit. Yet!

:dodgy:

I linked that article a while ago. Doesn't matter now. He held out for a move to us, and that in my eyes says it all. He WANTS to play for us, is good enough to play for us, and now will be playing for us. Everybody wins, except Wigan fans  Sucks to be them.

SIGNED AND WILL BE OUR NEW NUMBER 3:
