Manchester City's new signing Mario Balotelli said he would have preferred to continue playing in Italy.

The striker became City's latest big-name signing after a move, reportedly worth £24m, from Italian champions and Champions League winners Inter Milan.

But the 20-year-old said he felt he had to leave after a "difficult year".

"I'm sorry that I'm leaving Inter and Italy because I would have preferred to continue my career in my own country," read a statement on his own website.

"I'm going where I hope to find the space I need to play which is very important to me: I need to play, to make mistakes, to learn and to play again. As well as a calm environment around me."

Cha-CHING!!!!

Robino mark II?

For all the hype has he even be as productive as say Vaughn?

He's a very good talent...but a bad nob head.

And also a massive gamble. £24million for a player who hasnt played 1 full season of competative football.

He might look good for a few months but you can sense he'll disappear for the rest of the season ala Robinho.

Feel sorry for him, i don't know why inter cashed in on him, they must have a player lined up for his replacement.

I'm not sure sorry is the right word. Look at the track record of players who excel once out of the clutches of Dr. Robotnik. That being said he probably would have gotten plenty of starts on Inter given that onion blossom will most likely reward a Diego Milito brace/hat-trick with a 2 game benching.
