BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | M | Man City | Man City line up Barca friendly

Manchester City will play European champions Barcelona in a friendly at the Nou Camp on Wednesday, 19 August.

City were originally due to play Everton in the Premier League, but the fixture has been rearranged because of the Toffees' Europa League qualifier.

The English Premier League season begins on Saturday, 15 August, while the Spanish La Liga competition starts on 31 August.

And people are worried about City?

Sit back and be amused this season. Once Hughes goes, they could be on to something.

****** profile building. They want to do want United do and play these PR Competitions mid season to boost the brand.

It will be funny though if they are doing gash all season and Barca smash em all over the place.

I bet they paid ALOT of money for that. And I'm talking upwards of £40million for a friendly.

I dont think it would be that much to be honest mate.

Its Man Citeh, I could be.

Few weeks into the season, Real Madrid have a "super" team breathing down their necks, and what do Barca need? A friendly against a poorly ranked premiership team out to try and raise their profile on the back of Barca.

I'm sure they said "no ta"...and Citeh went "Something like £20mill be alright?"

Easy money to make.

i think you are confusing the Barca friendly with the Lescott negotiation.

City trying to sit down at the big table is a nauseating sight. Even worse than that, you just *know* Barca are getting a massive wedge out of the Arabs for accomodating these nouveau riche ****s. So much for the purist philosophy.

Was it Barcalona that went to Citeh to organise a friendly or the other way round? Being that your lot will be a few games into the premiership, I'm sure yous popped over their to "raise the profile," lobbed a load of cash at them and said "you wanna game?"

Bet you've slapped lots of "Messi, Henry, etc MUST play" clauses even though their season dont start till the end of August and they could want to blood a few youngsters.

i don't have any idea how it was organized, and neither do you, mate.
but the speculation in this thread smacks of sour grapes.
perhaps it was a friendly gesture on Barca's part to maintain a relationship after Eto'o deal fell through.

not sour grapes mate, it's just a pr stunt. I'm not a fan when manure do it midseason either. But business is business. And I'm sure your lot have paid a fair amount for that pr stunt. No shame in it pal.
