Player Valuation: £20m
It's the first time it will be free-to-air in England, Scotland & Wales. Why watch? I think it’s worth a look anytime you get the chance to see the best in the world doing something. Dublin can claim to be the greatest team ever, having won 8 of the last 12 Championships. Kerry are reigning champions and the most successful county overall. David Clifford (Kerry) is widely spoken of as the greatest player of all time, despite being only 24 and having won only one All-Ireland. Three Dublin players are chasing unprecedented ninth medals.

Sunday 30/07/23, Throw-in 3.30
BBC 2 coverage from 3.00

This is a good 4 minute explanation of the rules:

There have been 2 changes since it was made - a black card is now punished with a 10 minute sin-bin and ‘the mark” was introduced where a player can get a free kick for cleanly catching a long kicked pass in certain circumstances.

Channel Four used to show Gaelic football back in the mid 80s. It drew a decent audience but they canned it after a few years.

Watched to half time or 35 minutes

Never seen it before but it looked fast. Seemed to me that it was only a foul if you knocked your opponent unconscious… like the Dublin player did to the Kerry goalkeeper and only earned a yellow card.

Ridiculous yellow! Games gone soft.

Sadly, the game has turned into handball (international version). It used to be great when players kicked long balls and high fielding was commonplace. Hand pass rule needs amending in both footballl and hurling. Both codes are in a serious decline as a spectacle. Just my opinion. Maybe handpasses should only be permitted in the final (attacking) third of the pitch. I dunno. Something has to change though.
