Funny isn't it?
When we were rubbish (and playing ordinary football) we got no coverage - and, tell the truth, we weren't overly bothered. Then hey last season (not to mention 04-05 either) we suddenly improve and, guess what, we're last or near last again. Hey, even when we aren't at the tail end of the schedules we got short shrift from the MOTD schedulers - match action confined to the goals, invariably edited to start into the 30th minute or so.
Please don't come that "lots of Sunday" rubbish either since invariably there is a big game on that day involving the Top 4 (on Live TV) which will get first coverage.
Let's examine this midweek then. Why not show Tuesday's game first? It's chronologically sound - just like the early kick-off on a Saturday is. The result put Everton top - so let's show that and see if they can be toppled by the rejuvenated City or Chelsea (or just possibly Sunderland). No? No, of course not - we get the 4 goals and 3 close things. Oh right - you show far more action from a sterile game at Wigan - including the players lining up for heaven's sake - and an average game at (neutrals' favourites) Fulham - dwelling for 3 or 4 shots of the same incident - not to mention trying to make Sunderland and Birmingham look exciting!!
Sorry, BBC - you are the laughing stock of football coverage. The Everton performance at Spurs was scintillating - they could have got 6 or 7 goals - but you chose to practically overlook it - and the impending crisis at Spurs. Instead we were treated to shots of Man City's keeper comparing him with his father and pictures of their Thai owner waving to the crowd!
I despair at the bias towards the so-called big 4. I despair for a programme that once was a standard bearer in football entertainment.
A sad day indeed - a very sad day
