According to todays Daily Mail newspaper, Middlesbrough are lining up a bid for Evertons James Beattie should their efforts to lure Manchester Uniteds Alan Smith fail.
Apparently Middlesbrough have agreed a £6million fee with Manchester United, however the 26-year-old striker is reportedly not interested in a move to Teesside and are now set to turn their attentions to James Beattie.
Beattie fell massively out of favour at Everton last season, scoring only two goals all season, both coming from the penalty spot.
