Exam results day reminded me of something I did back in the day.
I had an A Level exam in a subject called 'Rights and Responsibilities'. The exam was at 6pm on a Friday night as it was an open age exam for working adults also.
This is when I was at an age when all I was doing in life was celebrating football and thinking about boobs.
I remember being on a fume that I had to attend the exam at a time of day when I should have been thinking about having fun.
This was the 2nd time I had sat this A Level. I had failed it the previous year, apparently I was the first student from that college to attain an Unclassified grade, as all I did in the paper was write a complaint to the matriculation board in the style of Rik from The Young Ones. Lad I was.
That year I had become a fan of 60's music, when it was I was supposed to be listening to Dire Straits.
I was into watching Yellow Submarine on VHS repeatedly and had all The Monkees albums on vinyl. First and best Boy Band in the world? These things were my influence on what I did next.
Anyway, I am sitting waiting for the exam to start in full fume mode. I again wrote a complaint as my opening paragraph.
Then I wrote this poem. Years before The Matrix I might add.
Do you remember when you were young?
Confidence brimming, be the one.
You felt so free, a sun kissed child,
Look around and morning smiled.
Surf the waves of happiness
A warm embrace, a sweet caress.
Knowing all that's false and all that's true
A subtle thought just passes through
And then now you know and now you feel
Those days are gone, this world is real.
Is life a figment of the imagination?
Is reality just a bad dream?
Live everyday in consternation
All is not what it would seem.
It's all in the mind.
A kaleidoscope world of harmony,
Believing all you want to see.
Live in your dream without intrusion.
It's in your mind, it's your illusion.
Look around, you still don't care.
You see things that are not there.
Your sun has gone, was it ever here?
And in your eyes I see the fear.
Look hard again and you might see
A battered and shattered reality.
Is life a figment of the imagination?
Is reality just a bad dream?
Live everyday in consternation,
All is not what it would seem.
It's all in the mind.
I received a 2nd consecutive Unclassified result. A record I am lead to believe stands proud today.
Go me.
Two days later, Diego cheated England. Shilton must take some blame.
Thanks for reading, please do share some stories.....
