For a reduced fee to boot! 3.87 million and more due if he makes 75 appearances! What is going on?

My money is on City benching him @ 74 games and selling him for a massive profit. It also sounds like Pompey wanted to get rid, which is strange as Harry was singing his praises all season long. Doesn't he have 2 hat-tricks to his name this season!

Ahh, that would be a good bet, for Benjani to get a third, must be good odds!

I think Harry said it all when he said he didnt want to sell him but to sell a 29 year old and get in a 25 year old who will always score goals is a no brainer.

I think Pompey had to sell before they could buy- hence only the loan of Defoe until the Benjani deal was secured.

After news broke that Manchester City's swoop for Pompey striker Benjani was completed on time, reports on Tuesday have suggested that the fee paid for the Zimbabwean only around the £8m the two clubs agreed last week.

It is now being speculated that the former Portsmouth man has joined Sven-Goran Eriksson's Citizens for just £4.8m, with City officials offering Pompey the sum in a take-it-or-leave it move.

The Fratton Park side, who have a financial commitment to buy Jermain Defoe from Spurs for £8m in the summer, were over a barrel and reluctanctly accepted the revised bid.

The deal was allowed to be done three days after the window shut because it had been set in motion and the relevant paperwork submitted before the deadline expired.

But there was no time for any new deal to be arranged, meaning Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth could not negotiate a sale with any other club.

For his part, 29-year-old Benjani will only receive a two-and-a-half-year deal at Eastlands, less than previously thought. They also carried out more medical tests on the former Auxerre man, which he passed.

2.5 years is nothing. so he'll be 31 and a free agent. bet his agent can sense the readies.

its strange the situation at city

bianchi is on loan at lazio
samaras loaned to celtic
dickov loaned to crystal palace

so looking at that, those three are for the door in the summer.

vassel
mpenza
etuhu
bojinov
caicedo

arent cutting the mustard

castillo fractured shoulder.

their form has gone off since elano got injured, will benjani find the goals they require to assert pressure again - at under 4 mill, its a decent gamble.

will be interesting to see who they recruit in the summer.
