Reidy's Bottle Of Grecian

The Unobstructed View
anticipating getting a couple of bikes.

i saw a mountain bike the other day that one of the lads has got. it's from decathlon sports, a rockrider 6.3. £300 he reckons it's an exact copy made in china of a bike costing about £1500 , it has been discontinued for a new model so decathlon have had the other one copied.
anyone know anything about the decathlon bikes as they seem good for their prices, with some reduced to £89 that even seem quite good.

Decathlon are pretty good yeah. Can't say I've ever bought a bike off them but I get all my cycling gear from there as it's fairly cheap but good quality.

Don't know a thing about mountain bikes being a roadie myself, so can't help you at all on that one! Their new b'Twin road bikes are ok though, got a fairly good reputation. (y)

when i say mountain bike, it's just for on dirt tracks tbh in forests and country parks, delamere near here is really good for the kids (they have one of those go ape things as well), need to be fairly light though as the car will be loaded with 4 bikes. they have some b-twin bikes as well as the rockrider ones, but steel so would be a bit heavy.
i would do it on a full-size bmx tbh as i reckon it would be more fun, as there are loads of little dirt jumps about.

Most of what you are paying for with a mountain bike is a) equipment level and, once you have that, b ) weight (or lack of it).

It depends what you are going to do with it, especially if you are planning on doing any climbing or off-road, but my immediate reaction would be that 89 quid is going to get you a heavy clunker city bike which will do for getting around town on or the odd tour around parkland.

You should be able to get fairly decent entry level name-brand bikes for a few hundred, that is, if you want or really need a mountain bike. In fact, just checked on cyclestore.co.uk and they have Kona and Specialized starting for under 300.
