well, here's the thing -
A few months ago when having a bit of banter with some RS colleagues, I suggested that with it being the 20th anniversary and having read more about what Rhys Jones' family want to do in his memory, it would be a good idea to try and raise a few quid for those causes.
Yep, good idea, we'll support you etc etc.
So I wrote to Everton and explained that I wanted to do something for the above. After a few weeks I got a very brief letter from Sharpy offering two tickets for the Goodison visit (worth about £20 maybe)
Anyway, I also got in touch with the dark side and I got a signed ball, two tickets for the Anfield experience (worth ££££££££'s) and 4 tickets for the Anfield museum visit.
Now, before everyone makes a witty comment about how they need to pay people to go there blah blah, I was really surprised at how uncooperative EFC actually were.
I also needed a contact for the Rhys Jones Trust but was told to 'look on the website'. Although, following yet another email to EFC, Ian Ross has said that he would give the cheque to Rhys's dad.
So we did the quiz and the raffle and raised £217 but we could have raised much more if EFC had helped with some more prizes.
I know they must get inundated with requests for stuff but if the RS can do it surely 'the people's club' could pull their finger out a bit more? It took a fair bit of organizing and it's not like I've got hours to spend going around selling raffle tickets and stuff.
I suppose I'm a bit miffed because it was my idea and I'm always on about how much our club is in touch with the supporters and I really wanted EFC to shine, instead we have looked like a real bunch of meanies.
Had to get that off my chest!
