Player Valuation: £8m
well, here's the thing -

A few months ago when having a bit of banter with some RS colleagues, I suggested that with it being the 20th anniversary and having read more about what Rhys Jones' family want to do in his memory, it would be a good idea to try and raise a few quid for those causes.
Yep, good idea, we'll support you etc etc.
So I wrote to Everton and explained that I wanted to do something for the above. After a few weeks I got a very brief letter from Sharpy offering two tickets for the Goodison visit (worth about £20 maybe)

Anyway, I also got in touch with the dark side and I got a signed ball, two tickets for the Anfield experience (worth ££££££££'s) and 4 tickets for the Anfield museum visit.

Now, before everyone makes a witty comment about how they need to pay people to go there blah blah, I was really surprised at how uncooperative EFC actually were.
I also needed a contact for the Rhys Jones Trust but was told to 'look on the website'. Although, following yet another email to EFC, Ian Ross has said that he would give the cheque to Rhys's dad.

So we did the quiz and the raffle and raised £217 but we could have raised much more if EFC had helped with some more prizes.
I know they must get inundated with requests for stuff but if the RS can do it surely 'the people's club' could pull their finger out a bit more? It took a fair bit of organizing and it's not like I've got hours to spend going around selling raffle tickets and stuff.

I suppose I'm a bit miffed because it was my idea and I'm always on about how much our club is in touch with the supporters and I really wanted EFC to shine, instead we have looked like a real bunch of meanies.

Had to get that off my chest!

'The people's club' is the biggest load of rubbish ever to be associated with Everton and I wish they'd get rid of it.

I'm susprised to see that the Rhys Jones Memorial Trust isn't one of the club's nominated charities.

no it isn't but I've found out that you can donate to it through the 'just giving' site.
I suppose they have their reasons but to be honest, the club were not that helpful.

Surprised with Sharp's response, tbh. Ross saying he'd pass the cheque on was a kick in the teeth.

To be fair - I've always heard Everton to be far more charitable. I've helped with several fund raiser evenings etc and Liverpool rarely offered anything, or even replied but Everton would always at least send something signed.

To be fair to the club as well, a legend did reply - with something. Wouldn't say that warrants "I was really surprised at how uncooperative EFC actually were."

I agree mate. We should wish to be associated with his name to show we as a club are against gang culture and the taking of innocent lives because of it.

Sharpy replied with the tickets for the Goodison tour and the message that it was a 'gesture of goodwill' nothing else. LFC replied with a letter wishing me luck etc etc etc.
I'm the last person to ever criticise our club and show anything but contempt for that lot over the Park but on this occasion I really was surprised with the lack of support.
In the past Ian Ross has been helpful with answers to questions etc so I won't criticism him over anything that has happened in the past just this one!
I don't expect loads of fuss because I've done something like this but to add a message of good luck in the letter that someone else willl have written anyway, wouldnt have cost them anything.
Anyway, done now, money raised, cheques written and sent to Hillsbourgh fund and Mr and Mrs Jones via the Liverpool Echo.(y)

I'm with Bluelass. It would take little effort, and no expense, for the club to put together a little package of goodies. Let's hope it was a lapse on the club's part, rather than something else.

Somebody ought to say it:

Well done Bluelass.

And your RS friends.

And even to LFC. no shame in acknowledging that they're better organised than us on this occasion...
