Player Valuation: Free Transfer
I was just reading the BBC discussion boards for a good laugh at some of the Evertonians that go on there, and read and interesting comment, I would like your opinions on the comment...

Don't normally go the game but got 2 freebies last night so went along and was surrounded by the same old, same old Everton 'supporters'. Up for it at the kick off but once the first pass goes astray they spend the next 89 minutes spitting venom, baying for blood and constantly on the players backs. How do they expect players to perform when they're constantly being berated. Players playing with no confidence...I wonder why?!! There's groans around the ground when the ball has been passed to Hibbert....that before he's even kicked the ball. Get behind them all, get off they're backs or stay at home.

Are we too hard on our players to the point that we make their performance worse?

I seem to remember for the 3rd penalty the Street End all singing AJ's name to help him, thats hardly getting on the players backs.

Clearly some are going to be overly critical, but on the whole I'd say us Blues are what make Everton who they/we are today, so no I dont believe we make the teams performance worse, in fact quite the opposite.

but when a player is performing badly, like for example, Hibbert, does getting on his back make him play any worse?

I think it all depends on the player, a weak player may get down about it but a strong player would thrive. Ultimately playing at Everton is not a job all players can do, but its the same for any big club. Certain expectations need to be met, thats why they get paid the big bucks and thats what they should aspire too.

Thats a good point Dejan, if he doenst go to the game how can they be "same old, same old"? Everton fans are generally accepted as being among the best in the world, thats good enough for me.
