Did anyone watch the Sir Bobby Robson Trophy match on ITV4 last night? It was an England XI versus a Germany XI in what was billed as a re-run of the 1990 World Cup semi final. It was played at St. James' Park and over 30,000 turned up and hopefully raised a lot of money for Bobby Robson's charity. The great man himself even made an appearance. It was a little upsetting to see how frail and unwell he looks now due to his ongoing battle with cancer but he seemed delighted to be there with the crowd singing his name. England even managed to come back from 2 goals down to win 3-2 and put a smile on Sir Bobby's face. The goals came from Les Ferdinand, Alan Thompson and Alan Shearer. Howard Wilkinson took the role of manager.

England XI: Peter Shilton, Mark Wright, Des Walker, Gary Pallister, Rob Lee, John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne, David Platt, Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer.

Others who made appearances: Dave Beasant, John Beresford, Steve Hodge, Steve Howey, Alan Thompson, Craig David, Paddy McGuinness, Simon Webb.

ahh really?!

why has this not been metioned anywhere on like skysports or bbc websites, I'd have loved to have watched that....allbeit at someone else's house as I don't have ITV4 ha

that should have been shown on ITV or BBC1 for the great man!

Reads more like a Neeowcastle XI to me:)

I have a lot of admiration for Robson, always liked him, such amazing courage.

Yeah I guess they wanted to ensure a big crowd turned up so made sure there was plenty of local interest in the side. I also share your admiration for Robson. One of the genuine nice guys and even in his darkest days he is thinking of others with all his work for charity. Great man.

on this note....

was this 1990 team, the last bunch of players who have played together for england, that you would actually really like for them to win something?

maybe its just me, but that seemed like a proper england team...

since then I perhaps think its who gets paid the most, gets picked? although I do feel capello is finally making a change

sorry for going off topic, but I think that team and Sir Bobby as manager was just brilliant
