The People says Gareth Southgate is hoping to use Everton's interest in David Wheater to land Johnson. Wheater, 21, has emerged as a quality centre-half and has caught the eye of Blues boss David Moyes.

And there is every chance the move can happen despite Johnson signing a new deal following interest from West Ham and Spurs.

Striker AJ, 27, has been in and out at Everton, but Boro boss Southgate will still have to cough up £6million plus Wheater.

This rumour is just a steaming pile of Crouch, why do the press and media persist in trying their utmost to derail us when we're in form and on the brink of success, it happens every time, it's almost as though they don't want us there, scared of us and what challenges we'll bring to their cherished ' big four'
 
Was that actually in the paper? How they could put that in without putting a disclaimer saying this is a joke as that is quite clearly what it is
