Turkey international Tuncay Sanli has agreed personal terms to join Middlesbrough.
The forward, who once scored a UEFA Champions League hat-trick against Manchester United, will move to The Riverside Stadium on a free transfer.
His contract with Fenerbahce had expired and Tuncay was keen to secure a move to the Premier League.
As reported by skysports.com on Monday, Birmingham City were also sweet on the attacker, while Boro's North East rivals Newcastle United denied an interest.
But Boro have managed to pip newly-promoted Birmingham to Tuncay's signature after announcing a deal has been agreed.
The deal is subject to Tuncay passing a medical and his arrival at the club will be a boost following Mark Viduka's recent departure.
Chairman Steve Gibson had been promising a couple of 'spectacular' signings and Tuncay could be the first of several new faces in Gareth Southgate's squad.
