Advice for a beginner please.

I bought a Nikon DL3100 a while ago and now Mrs L bought me a bigger zoom lens. But I can't get the fecking thing to focus on anything unless it is quite close. Seems it can't lock on to focus anything - what am I doing wrong?

You've defo got AutoFocus switched on the side of the lens mate?

If not then does your lens have image stabilisation? For tightly zoomed in shots you'll need a tripod otherwise.

Someone more knowledgable than me might be able to help more.

What is the range of it? Do you know the lens model?

Spotted this fly having the last of its supper, or the other fly that was being eaten, having had it's last supper... Either way, food was on the menu...

The first sunfly of the summer landed on the flagstone around my little pond today (actually a hoverfly, Helophilus pendulus).

I've been thinking about the crop factor of a 7D compared to the 5D Mk2 (I miss the extra length to a degree), I thought I would quickly try and show how good the crop is on the 5D Mk2 anyway, just for something to do, lol...

So here are the two before and after images, the first totally unedited and the second what I wanted it to look like after editing.

Sorry for the play on words, but this fly mite (might?) have a problem, as you can see, with a host of parasitic mites around the basicosta and the anterior spiracle area.

The fly is about 6mm long from the front of the head to the tips of it wings, so you can imagine just how small these mites are.
