Amazing (sorry if its been seen before) (y)

Brazilian authorities are investigating a soccer match in the second division of Maranhão which saw a 9 goal-feast in the last 9 minutes of the game.

Viana Esporte Clube needed a rout against Chapadinha to snatch the championship title and promotion at the expense of rivals Moto Club.

The game ended with a triumph of Viana by 11-0, but curiously nine of the eleven goals came on the final 9 minutes... when they learned that Moto Club had won their match 5-1.

Images from the game raised even more suspicion as Chapadinha players suddenly turned into living statues, allowing opponents scoring the goals.

My favourite part is when they look for the offside flag at the end....genius!!!!

Hypothetically though....

Say we're playing Man United in the league (we've secured Champs League and all that). But if United win they win the title. Over the other end, if the RS win, they win the title. So what in the rule books stops us just rolling over and letting United smash all over us so we try and stop the RS winning the league?

Surely there is one in football to stop that kinda of stuff? But aparantly not in Brazil.

Ha, all very true....

Thankfully there is no chance the RS will be winning the title...so we can all rest easy =)

On the other hand...something about the defending on that video reminded me of ours for that goal on Saturday....mmmm

Reminds me of our qualifiers for Euro 1984. The Dutch had virtually guaranteed top spot, after winning their last match. Spain had to win their game, that was a late kick off with an 11 goal difference. First half, Spain played like a beaten team and had a difficult first half against their opponents Malta.

At the break they were only leading 3-1. During the break, someone must have informed them of the Holland result and when they came out for the 2nd half, Malta seemed to just roll over and give free passage to Spain. The game ended 12-1, meaning Holland was out and Spain went on to play in Euro 84.

Never liked the national teams of either Spain or Malta since that day. Clear day light robbery as far as I'm concerned.

in all fairness though, in 1984 Spain shouldve been beating Malta 12-1.

my 'arl grandads last Everton game was in Malta around that time, was on holiday there and noticed they were playing against Hamrun Spartans, so went along.

he was about 80 at the time.

Might very well be, but the difference between Malta in the first an the 2nd half was overwhelming. They just lost interest in the match and allowed Spain to get the goals they needed. Quite sure, that if they had needed 25 goals that night, the Maltese players would have start scoring own goals to help them out.

Being Malta, money must have changed hands Dutch...................nice people the Malts but a tad mafia influenced by their friends from Sicily. I bet that team went to confession the following day!

I'm amazed the players had the balls to actually carry this out. It takes some nerve to play like that. But it's interesting, there was an EU court ruling recently that basically said that due to potential collusion between players and sponsors, football betting shouldn't be guaranteed a free market (like other goods and services in the EU). At the time I thought it was a pretty strong ruling for a judge to declare sport can't be trusted, but now I've seen that video, I take it all back! Blimey.
