Galloway was tremendous .

Interesting that he was trusted to mark Costa at corners.

He is going to be a hell of a player in a couple of years

Gotta love Dave, sticks to his principles basically no matter what.

Anyhow, the kid was near imperious today, looked very good defending against some high quality players, and got up the other end to offer something there too. Not bad at all for a 19 year old playing out of position. Very promising for the future, looks to be a canny buy.

Supposing Garbutt returned to fitness in the next month and you had an option to recall him. Would you do it ?

A few weeks ago I think most of us would have said yes, if Baines's going to be out till Christmas.

But now I'm wondering what would be the point ? As long as Galloway carries out playing like he did yesterday and growing in confidence, and we have backup in Oviedo and Mori.

I dont think 2 ball players works, the Jags and Stones partnership is perfect, how good is Jags playing tho?

@davek

Isn't that just one of those things that everyone assumes though without any evidence it doesn't work, off the top of my head can't think of too many teams that have tried playing two together besides Barca - but mostly due to their being a dearth of actual quality ball playing cb's

If both are smart players then no reason it wouldn't work, theirs only one ball so can't both exactly swan off at the same time - long as the other ones covers shouldn't be any different mate?

Nope, Garbutt will be best served by having a full season in the championship, also think Browning would be better served by a season long loan as well mate, need to have depth but also need the younger players to play enough time to develop

Browning might get a bit of a run if Coleman is out now.

A back four of Coleman, Stones, Galloway and Garbutt in a year or two could be incredibly strong. I don't see many other teams with more potential than our defence. Ty Browning hasn't looked a slouch either, and Funes Mori is still young. Might, just might turn into a top 4 defence.

true enough, have a few different options though, 3 at the back with funes mori, stones moving to rb mori in a cb etc, think Browning at rb is by far the most likely and preferred option though

Hope Coleman was just a niggle actually though as he's started to really come into form

mate Coleman, Stones, Jagielka and Baines is already a top 4 quality defence

Great from him again. For a player to do so well not in his natural position and at such a young age is remarkable.

He's played against some of the best players in the league and has been brilliant. Going forward, he seems to be getting confident.

Great stuff.

Agree with that to be fair. We've got their replacements all lined up too though, so it doesn't look like its getting any worse anytime soon.

That's the key mate, to have the next generation of players coming through and getting the experience before the older players move on or are replaced by them.

Would add Jonjoe Kenny to that list btw, been playing every game for Wigan and if he develops the way he looks to be think he will eventually be Coleman's backup and long term replacement
