The last of the Corinthians and one of the all time greatest Everton players and Evertonians, Brian Labone would have been 70 today, R.I.P. Labby and thanks for showing us all what it is to be a true Evertonian, sadly missed by all on G.O.T. and anyone with a connection to the club:

Labone Remembered

by Giulia Bould | Friday 22 January 2010, 16:51

Everton legend Brian Labone would have turned 70 today.
The former Blues captain died four years ago on the 24 April.

A one-club man, Labone's professional career with Everton lasted from 1958 to 1971 when he retired due to a serious Achilles tendon injury.

In that time the defender made 451 appearances during which he won the Football League championship twice and the FA Cup once.

He also played 26 times for the England national football team and famously withdrew from the 1966 World Cup winning squad so he could get married.

Labone's most famous quote showed his affection for the Toffees: ‘One Evertonian is worth twenty Liverpudlians’.

The ex-skipper kept up his links with the Club following his retirement working as a stadium tour guide and website columnist.

Blues fans voted the man dubbed the last of the Corinthians into Everton's Greatest Ever Team at the start of the 2003/2004 season.

Labby remains in the thoughts of Everyone associate with Everton.

This.

There will be only one Brian Labone.

RIP..always in our hearts!

I new the guy, played golf with him, snogged him in 63 on the pitch at GP after we had whipped Fulham's arse, he snogged me back in the golf club after I reminded of that day..................a giant, a true giant. I still miss him sadly, the corridors of Goodison have seemed empty since his passing

Monty I was at that game with me Dad, sitting in Gwladys Street Stand. My first Everton game. What a day, pity no film record of it.

I would also like to endorse the love and affection that we all feel for Labby.

Bob when I pop my clogs mate I will die with a smile on my face thinking of that day................Sir Alex Young in tears, Alex Parker nearly falling over with emotion, Westy stammering everywhere, Sir John in the stands with the champers ready for the team as they climbed up through the stands to greeted by everyone other than those celebrating on the turf and me second in the queue to snog Labby (didn't wash for a week:lol:)...............best day ever at GP as far as I'm concerned(y)(y)(y)

1=20

Cried my eyes out when we had the minutes applause for him. It was like a piece of my youth had been ripped out.

Saw a few games of his, read his autobiography, and never took up smoking on the account of his words. My first Everton shirt had No 5 on it, and that's the position I played in when I captained by school team.

If ever there was a role model for a young man, he was that man.

RIP big fella.

Always there, never forgotten

I met him once back in '95. He was drinking in a pub called The Masons. He was just so huge. The years had taken their toll but he still had an aura of excellence around him. A truely great man.

RIP
