I'm almost reluctant to tempt faith to tell you guys what I'm about to tell you and particularly in light of bigbadjeff's sad news yesterday.

Anyway, here goes.

You may remember that the news about my dog Penny was hopeless, the initial biopsy indicated that she had a fibrosarcoma, just about as bad as it gets. We were waiting for confirmation though from a bone biopsy which takes much longer as they have to decalcify the bone first.

Well, this morning I spoke to Leahurst and they told me that the bone biopsy has come back and that the result from the initial biopsy was inaccurate.
She doesnt have a fibrosarcoma at all:), it's something different (which I can't spell) and that the prognosis is very good. In fact, they want to see her next week for a bit of a check up, then in 6 months time for a complete discharge.

Can you believe it? Two weeks of pain and upset and she's going to be okay.
Thank you God.

I actually went up to see a vet that is a cancer specialist on Friday with a view to making what time we had left of the best possible quality and she told me some interesting things about cancers in dogs and cats and their diet etc. I'll write something later when I get home because if you have a cat or a dog it's worth hearing.

Havent got much time now as I've just taken an early dinner break to come and use the library computer to give you this news. I was bursting to tell someone and you guys, well, you've all been very supportive so I thought I'd tell you first.

I'd buy you all a very large drink but......(y)

Great news for you and all the family. Penny will be wondering what all the fuss is about. Back and forth to the vet, probably lots of hugs, kisses and treat as well. She's a lucky dog. But you've set a standard now, Bluelass, the special treatment will have to continue. Forever.(y)

Spiffing news for you both, now celebrate with a vintage bottle of vino, none for Penny though, because as any vet worth their salt would tell you, dogs should not drink wine.

Top tip of the day.

Thanks guys.

I mentioned that I went to see a vet on friday who is a cancer specialist and treats the whole animal rather than just the cancer itself and they help people and the animal, of course, deal with terminal cancer and other forms too.
We had a lengthy consultation and we talked about how important diet was.
In a nutshell, the pre prepared food we get for dogs is not good. If they have any form of cancer it is positively lethal.
The reason being that cancer cells feed off carbohydrates in the form of glucose and saturated fats and the pre prepared stuff is jam packed full of some awful stuff.

Complex carbohydrates in the form of fruit and vegetables are okay but dogs need more protein than anything else in their diet and they should therefore eat meat, fish, cottage cheese (yes, cottage cheese) and as much fruit and veg as possible. Their carbohydrate intake should come from brown rice or wholewheat products.

So, from now on, cancer or no cancer, my dogs will be fed chicken, fish, especially sardines, vegetables and fruit with brown rice.
Some red meat is okay but I've beem making chicken and vegetable stock to make the blended vegetables more palatable. Fortunately they all like the veggies anyway so it's not too much hassle.

I don't want to get over excited yet because after these last two weeks I'm still trying to get my head around what's happened -

If we ever do meet up guys - I really will buy you all a pint (between you of course:D so bring a straw)

Try tell that to my dog! Without doubt the most stubborn (and probably spoiled) dog on planet earth. No problem on the chicken, veal, pig, beef, lamb or any other meats front. Cheese also isn't a problem, but after that it stops. No way I'll get him to eat fresh fish, vegetables and fruit. So, the only way to get him the required veg and fruit is by mixing the pre prepared food with the meat or cheese.(y)
