been eying a few up on t'internet and really want a big american one and become "trailer brash". anyone go caravaning/camping?

Went a few times years ago - birds walking on the roof can be annoying in the morning. Tourers can be hard work.

Fancy a BIG motorhome though, go touring round europe, dream trip.

Been down to Devon a couple of times caravaning, nice and peaceful.

I'd love to buy a big motorhome and go across America with a couple of mates

Can't imagine a caravan tour being great touring fayre, where do you park it in a city? I'm a city person me tho, not really into countryside holidays.

There are usually places around cities to park.

We worked it out it's cheaper to drive a car and stay in hotels, the extra price of towing and the cost of maintenance etc for the amount you use it.

I used to have a motorhome, loved it to bits but a change in my domestic situation (divorce) meant that I didnt use it as often as I used to so ended up selling it and getting a caravan.
Pros and cons-
caravan pros -
great if you want to stay somewhere for more than a few nights
less faffing around if you need to go out for the day, you just drive there.
cheaper than motorhomes

cons -
personally, not keen on towing long distances
loads of faffing when setting up
need a larger vehicle to tow safely (depending on size of caravan of course)
can't reverse the bloody thing!

motorhomes pros
everything right next to you so easy to stop for a tea and a pee
easy to move from place to place
easy to go on spur of the moment trips

cons
expensive compared to caravans
not everyone likes driving big vehicles - I don't mind because I used to drive a bus many moons ago
not really suitable for longer term stays unless you have bikes or scooters to get around.
not all car parks let you in!

Some of the best hols I've had were in the motorhome but I still like getting away in the caravan.
In fact, going away for 3 weeks from next Monday down to mid and south Wales. Can't wait! I'll miss you guys though, ...I think

seen this big american one,believe me it's cheap, and a potential bargain.
loads leave them in storage in spain and use the site we were on for upto 7 holidays a year costing about a tenner a night, the storage is 100euro a year and they take it on and off the site for you as well.

I heartily recommend "In The Land Of Grey And Pink", it's one of my absolute all-time favourites, but there's little else they've done that I feel really compares, apart from the odd track here & there.
