About time we had a cup run. Then a bit of Europe, all the time working on consistency away and with with the "top 6". If Carlo can't do it, nobody will. What a time to be alive!

Of course, Bale and Rodriguez would help....

I suspect Carlo got home last night, sat next to his wife with a bottle of red wine and said something along the lines of, "What the hell have I signed up for?"

Well in Italian of course and probably a few expletives along the way.

This is part of the problem - 2 players on the downward curve with questionable attitudes taking a step down from their current club

Been here before? We need players on the upward curve, not on the down

Now, where did we put that scouting network?

Signed up to a few years in a Crosby mansion, safe from being sacked, being paid millions, fans worshipping him, literally no expectations around the club anywhere. He can’t lose. If he fails it’s because Everton is the basket case we know it is. If he succeeds he’s the genius who did the impossible at the club no one can win at.

You’re right, he can’t. However, you’d hope a man like Carlo, with his proven record and love for football, will not be as complacent as you may suggest.

Watching us more frustrate him as much as it does us, and it does and will reflect on him. This is a real challenge for him, and I hope that he embraces it.

Carlo certainly needs to earn his crust here. This is unchartered territory for him. Let’s hope he can inject something into the club. He conducts himself very well and is very likeable. He has a great track record but not in these situations. Let’s hope he proves to us that he can build a foundation of a good team. Because this is a complete rebuild.

As much as people would like to see almost the entire squad moved on this will not happen or even close .
We need an outfield squad of at least twenty and if we are signing four or five that will be lot. We need to fill some key positions, we need to sign leaders on the pitch and then we would see a radical change in the players that are with us even now.
As bad has this has been it has laid bare the extent of the problem not only to the manager but also the owners.
I think this is the most crucial summer for in years as we will probably sooner rather than later what promises were made to the manager to get him here.

Bale is 31. Rodriguez is 29. We may not be in line for them, but they should both have much to give.
Some might have thought Milner was washed up a while back. Not the worst lump over there.

Where is Tonto? Get scouting...

Agree with the leaders, we also need players who are good on the training ground, and ones who will shame the other lads in to working harder. Like Cantona/Keane did at Utd and Bergkamp did at Arsenal. It seems this group of players have had it too easy for too long now.

We are a perennial mid table club. The only way we can possibly attract the quality players we desperately need is to throw money at them...OR...play the Ancelotti card. He will attract players that would never consider us. Ancelotti is the best signing we’ve made in decades.

Lets wait and see shall we, not overly confident we’re suddenly going to start signing bigger names than before.

It was beautiful to watch him throw those gutless cowards under the bus. I wish he would have gone further though, like Lampard did following their defeat to Sheffield United. Time for Carlo to come out and say there are many players at this club he does not want here in a couple of weeks time.

I argued before Carlo got signed up that it might not be the right time for someone like him.
He may be a step up, not too far, but too early.
This squad needs to be turned inside out, first and foremost in terms of mentality, hunger, team spirit - belief.

Its not to say that skill and talent isn't part of the formula.
Players like Davies, Walcott, Iwobi, DCL don't have all the skills required to play at the level they are playing at in the position they are playing.
Its not a question of form or what they can do well.
I seriously think that deep down they lack belief because they just don't have the skills needed in other areas that are a must at this level for the team to function.
Its not through a lack of them wanting. But as this plays out amongst the team things generally go south.
As has been said plenty of times, players like Iwobi and Walcott can fair ok at a side like Arsenal where skills needed for the team to function are found all over the field. They can get away with it and the side can play to their strengths, making them look better than they are.

The thing is there is plenty of players coming through with the skills needed to the get this team moving, ticking, playing.
It'll take time if you get in more youth, And it takes the right type of coach to guide and change the mentality.
But its better than what we've been going on for a decade.
Unless Carlo is in for the long haul and is prepared to have a couple of relegation scraps while the team develops then we may have been better going for a different style and nature of manager...before getting the Magnifico.

I think the biggest concern for the club is the lack of quality young players. A young lad like Jayden Braaf in the youth at City, why can't we attract these types of players to Everton. At the moment we need one or two youths coming through each season, at least putting serious pressure on the first team players. Since Barkley we've only managed to bring through Holgate.
There are much better players out there than Davies and DCL.

Having said all this, if Carlo was to bring in, through his contacts, a couple of experienced CL level midfielders and we have an overhaul of the youth policy then the club might be at something.

Yes you're probably right.

We talk about mentality and the background at the club quite a lot in the forum, and even though what you say is true about the players, since 2013-14 we haven't had the environment to succeed. Even Martinez in Years 2 & 3 and Koeman and Silva, had the players good enough to consistently be around 6th place. However,
Something behind the scenes - whoever are the people, and whatever are the systems and infrastructure to make the club run, they are where we are failing.

is it the nutrition and fitness plans?
maybe the way we travel and set up the timetable for away matches - where do we stay etc?
what are the ways in which players are managed and supported outside?
maybe we are complacent, in having a great training facility and a relatively very successful U23 team, maybe we feel like it'll automatically translate to First Team success.
I really don't want to criticise Brands, because I think he's better than Walsh and what we've had before, but I think maybe the U23 and youth set up is not as good as we thought, and actually the first team are only doing well temporarily, not consistently.
