Just equaled Boardmans British record of 41 career stage wins. Can see that being topped in France in about a month.

He sure is greased lightening on a bike. Dare say he'll go down as one of the all time greats. With Boonen and Petachi out of the Tour he's a huge favourite for the green jersey, which would be the first GB winner of a Tour jersey since Robert Millar back in the 80's.

Thanks, have heard of Caendish, but know fook all about cycling really. Is the Green jersey something sort of similar to the yellow jersey???

There are three jerseys (four if you count the best young rider) available in the Tour. The yellow jersey is for the fastest overall rider. You then get the two points jerseys. Points are awarded for doing well in the mountain stages (king of the mountains - polka dot jersey) and for doing well in sprints (the sprinters green jersey).

Tour de France - Jerseys and What They Mean

You have different jerseys to represent the different types of rider you have in the race. Sprinters are physiologically different to the likes of Lance Armstrong so do well on the flat stages, whereas the yellow jersey candidates will do better in time trials and mountain stages.

Cavendish is in with a great shot at the sprinters jersey as he's by far the quickest man in the field in a sprint finish.

To be fair, Boardman was faeces hot in the time trial, but that did not carry to the mountains. Boardman still holds the record for fastest average speed in a time trial. As for Cavendish, he is rather special but it is his team that break their backs to pull him to the front to get position for a sprint that deserve credit as well.
And sprinting, can really hurt.

Massive talent. You cant warm to the lad though can you? He's got all the personality of Andy Murray.

Bit tough though for interviewers though isn't it? "so how did you win", "well I just kept pushing the pedals as hard as I could". Yawn.
There are a few banned for drug violations, every year. More than a caught in pro football.
